Parteek Dahiya Says Adani Sportsline Owned Gujarat Giants Have Only PKL Title in Mind

Mumbai, 9th January, 2024: One of the brightest spots in the Adani Sportsline-owned Gujarat Giants squad this season has been the young Parteek Dahiya, who has been in fine form for his side, which is captained by Fazel Atrachali and coached by Ram Mehar Singh.

Parteek, who is in his second season in the PKL, came through the New Young Players’ programme in Season 9, and has been one of the standout performers for the Gujarat Giants, since joining the squad. The ace raider has scored 44 points in the last 4 games, with the Giants having won 7 out of their 11 games.

In fact, against the Bengal Warriors in Noida, Parteek raised the bar and how, scoring 22 raid points and 3 tackle points to put in a power packed performance for the Adani Sportsline owned Gujarat Giants.

Looking back, Parteek explained, “I started the season a little slowly but now that has changed and I am fully fit right now, and that is showing as I am playing longer durations in the game. What I do is, I keep myself focused on the strategy we have as a team, and look to perform my tasks accordingly, so that it benefits the team.”

Parteek likes to keep things simple – he is well aware of his responsibilities for the team, and is keen to perform as best as he can to help the Gujarat Giants in their hunt for the coveted title. When comparing his first season to the ongoing one, Parteek noted that hard work has been the key to his progress.

“I have been working hard with the coaches and they have been continuously helping me improve in my raiding and even my defensive performances. One of the things I have also worked on has been picking up more bonus points for the team. Ram Mehar Sir is always talking to me about my performances after games, and keeps motivating me a lot, and I think he expects me to do better in the future.”

While Ram Mehar is a stalwart in the sport of Kabaddi, Parteek, who hails from a sporting family where his uncle is the former India kabaddi captain Deepak Niwas Hooda and his sister is Asian Boxing Championships bronze medallist Preeti Dahiya, is also delighted to be playing alongside the champion Fazel Atrachali.

“Fazel’s presence is immense for our team as he makes our defensive unit solid and then also is motivating all of us at all points, no matter what. He is a very positive character in the team, and he is very good person to have on your team.”
Parteek, who says that his uncle has been a big influence on his career and dreams of a successful stint in the India colours, has his target set for the season.

“We have to win the PKL title in Season 10. We as the Gujarat Giants have only one target, and that’s the trophy. We have all the support we need from the team owners and the management, the Adani Sportsline team, has always done everything to back us fully in every aspect, and we could not be happier about that. It helps us be focused and play better eventually,” he signed off.

The Adani Sportsline owned Gujarat Giants will now move to Jaipur, where they will face the Puneri Paltan on 12th January.

‘It’s a rare occasion for sports tournaments to sustain for 10 seasons,’ says Bollywood Star Tiger Shroff on Pro Kabaddi League

MUMBAI, 9th January 2024: Bollywood Star Tiger Shroff graced his presence at the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 in Mumbai on Monday. He cheered on the U Mumba side, which took on Dabang Delhi K.C. at DOME by NSCI. Speaking about his favourite PKL player, Tiger Shroff said, “My favourite player is Pawan Sehrawat. I can relate to him because he’s a high flyer. And my favourite move is the Dubki. I really like how the raiders evade a chain of defenders through explosive power.”

Shroff, who trained in kabaddi for his film Student of the Year 2 in 2019, spoke about his experience of practicing the sport, “One of the main sports was kabaddi in Student of the Year 2. I trained a lot in kabaddi for the movie to get the body language correct. It was quite challenging for me. I learnt how to carry out raids and tackles. I also tried different moves such as Dubki.”

The Bollywood star further added, “Kabaddi is a really physical sport. It requires a lot of athleticism, strength and agility. I am really impressed by how the athletes perform in the Pro Kabaddi League.”

When asked about his thoughts on the Pro Kabaddi League, Shroff said, “This is the tenth season of the Pro Kabaddi League and it is a rare occasion for sports tournaments to sustain for so many seasons. Dabang Delhi KC stage epic comeback to stun U Mumba at home, rise to second on table

8th January, MUMBAI: Dabang Delhi KC beat the home team U Mumba 40-34 in a tense encounter at the DOME by NSCI in Mumbai to rise to second on the table. A rampaging Ashu Malik (13 points) was the star of the game on a day when U Mumba’s defence was underwhelming and underperforming.

Dabang Delhi KC rode on a blistering first half performance by Ashu Malik, who grabbed 8 raid points in the first period and was tackled only once by the Mumba defence. They inflicted the first ALL OUT of the game to take a 13-8 lead.

But as they succeeded on the raid, so did U Mumba, with both defences rendered ineffective in the half and restricted to a mere 7 points. While Delhi Dabang KC’s raiding was almost a one-man effort, U Mumba spread their 15 raid points among Amirmohammad Zafardanesh, Guman Singh and Jai Bhagwan. By the end of the half, despite trailing by two points they had reduced the Delhi Dabang KC team to two members on the mat.

Despite some solid raiding under pressure by Delhi Dabang KC, it didn’t take U Mumba too long in the second half to inflict an ALL OUT of their own and claw back their hold on the game. There was a one-point difference between the two teams as they went into the final quarter of the game.

Ashu Malik capitalised on a series of DO OR DIE raids to reduce the U Mumba numbers and then almost single handedly inflicted a second ALL OUT to take a 36-31 lead with three minutes to play. A series of razor thin decisions went in favour of a brilliant Delhi Dabang KC’s defence in the dying moments of the game as they closed out a hugely important victory.

‘The pair of Jaideep and Mohit is the backbone of the Haryana Steelers,’ says Head Coach Manpreet Singh

MUMBAI, 8th January 2024: The Haryana Steelers bounced back into form with a 41-35 victory over Bengal Warriors in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 on Sunday. Speaking about the match Haryana Steelers’ Head Coach Manpreet Singh said, “The pair of Jaideep and Mohit is the backbone of the Haryana Steelers. Mohit was very confident that he could take on Maninder since he has got him out many times. It feels really good to see a player showcase high confidence. I wouldn’t have minded even if we lost against Bengal Warriors because the players gave their best on the mat.”

The Steelers triumphed in the game, but Warriors’ Shrikant Jadhav scored a Super 10 in the game. When asked if the team could’ve performed better against Jadhav, the Head Coach said, “The defence unit couldn’t coordinate well while tackling Shrikant Jadhav, however, we also pulled off Super Tackles against him. We could’ve certainly defended better against him, but the players will make mistakes in every game.”

Manpreet Singh also spoke about Chandran Ranjit’s performance in the game. The raider scored 7 raid points in the match. He said, “Ranjit isn’t completely fit at the moment. I substituted him when I noticed that he started to lose energy on the mat. However, he gave his 100 percent on every raid. He’ll regain full fitness in the upcoming matches.”

The Haryana Steelers will be taking on U Mumba in their next match on 10 January 2023 in Mumbai. When asked about taking on the home side, Manpreet Singh said, “I have grown up in Mumbai and therefore my team gets a lot of love here. The fans in Mumbai will not only come to support U Mumba. They come to the stadium to support kabaddi. U Mumba has a great team balance and it’ll be difficult to defeat them.”

The Haryana Steelers are currently in the sixth position on the points table with 6 wins from 10 matches.

Haryana Steelers produce defensive masterclass to outsmart Bengal Warriors in PKL Season 10

7th January, MUMBAI: The Haryana Steelers produced a defensive masterclass to beat the Bengal Warriors 41-35 at the DOME by NSCI in Mumbai. Mohit Nandal, Jaideep Dahiya and Mohit combined for 12 tackle points, which proved to be the difference between the sides on the day.

The game truly kicked off with a SUPER RAID by Maninder in the third minute of the game, as the Warriors took a slender early lead. For the better part of the next 15 minutes though, the Steelers kept the Warriors’ lead man quiet, not allowing him a single raid point. At the same time, their own raiders kept picking away the points to take them up on points.

The Warriors defence stepped up in the dying minutes, chipping away at their opponents’ numbers, and soon enough Maninder went in to clean up and inflict the first ALL OUT of the game. The Warriors went into halftime with a 17-13 lead.

It didn’t take the Steelers long to hit back in the second half, a blitz of raiding by Vinay helping them inflict an ALL OUT of their own and take a two points lead. The game was end-to-end, neither side willing to back down, or able to race ahead. The sides were level on points entering the final quarter of the game.

In the final period though the Warriors raiders put the pressure on the Steelers to reduce their numbers. It took a series of SUPER TACKLES for them to not just stave off the ALL OUT but also hold a valuable one-point lead. It made a huge difference, and having just come on as a substitute, Siddharth Desai racked up a SUPER RAID with his first of the evening, to extend that lead.

It set up a brilliant end to the game, where the Steelers battled hard defensively to keep their lead, despite losing numbers, and the Warriors trying to get an all out to put them in control. That never arrived, the Steelers defence holding firm, initiating SUPER TACKLES and keeping their lead. In the final minute, Shivam Patare’s SUPER RAID gave them a seven point lead with three men on the mat. They held out to take the win.

Shadloui, Gaurav steer Puneri Paltan to nail-biting 29-26 win over Tamil Thalaivas

7th January, MUMBAI: Puneri Paltan edged past Tamil Thalaivas in a thrilling contest to win 29-26 in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match at the DOME by NSCI in Mumbai on Sunday. Mohammadreza Chiyaneh Shadloui (5 tackle points and 3 raid points) and Gaurav Khatri (6 tackle points) were Puneri Paltan’s best players, while Tamil Thalaivas’ skipper Sagar (7 tackle points) was their star performer.

The opening 20 minutes witnessed a see-saw battle between the two teams. Narender gave Tamil Thalaivas a dream start as he scalped a SUPER RAID to begin the match and Puneri Paltan were immediately forced onto the back foot. As the half wore on, both teams traded the lead and neither was able to take control of the proceedings as they both adopted a defensive approach.

A strategic 1st half ended with Puneri Paltan leading 12-11. It was the lowest number of points the side had scored all season.

Tamil Thalaivas began the half with a SUPER TACKLE as Sagar and Himanshu trapped Mohit Goyat. However, that did not stop Puneri Paltan from cruising ahead as Aslam Inamdar got the better of Sagar to inflict the 1st ALL OUT of the game. The table toppers held a narrow lead at 17-16 in the 24th minute.

The very next raid saw Shadloui escape with a SUPER RAID as he tagged two defenders and grabbed a bonus point. With Narender unable to score the big points, Tamil Thalaivas banked on their defence for points and a fine tackle from skipper Sagar on Pankaj Mohite saw him complete a High 5. It was then Shadloui’s turn to do the same as he stopped Narender with a rock-solid hold to claim his 5th tackle point in the 28th minute.

Tamil Thalaivas produced a mind-blowing comeback in the dying stages of the game. Two SUPER TACKLES – from M. Abishek and Sagar – saw Tamil Thalaivas trail by just 3 points in the 36th minute. And then a 3rd SUPER TACKLE from Nitesh Kumar in the 38th minute reduced the deficit to just 1 point.

It all boiled down to the last raid, where the Tamil Thalaivas were playing with 3 men and Puneri Paltan had a do-or-die raid. Aslam went on a pursuit raid and claimed a touch on Nitesh, but the on-field umpires ruled in Tamil Thalaivas’ favour and awarded them 2 points. That meant the scores were tied at 28-28. However, Puneri Paltan reviewed the decision and the TV umpire overturned the decision as Aslam and team wrapped up a nail-biting match by picking up their 7th win on the trot.

If Opponents Stop Arjun Deshwal, Others Will Step Up, Says Jaipur Pink Panthers’ Captain Sunil Malik

Mumbai, 7th January, 2024: The Jaipur Pink Panthers, who are the defending champions, have been on a six-match unbeaten streak, and closed out the first week of the new year, with a resounding win against U Mumba, in the presence of the Bachchan family, in Mumbai during Pro Kabaddi League Season 10. The Jaipur Pink Panthers defeated U Mumba 41-31, in another instalment of one of the most storied rivalries in the Pro Kabaddi League.

A ten-point win against the mighty U Mumba, in their own backyard meant that the Jaipur Pink Panthers’ leadership group was mighty pleased. Skipper Sunil Malik was all praise for Arjun Deshwal after the match, saying, “Arjun was in fine form against U Mumba, scoring important raid points for us. Along with him, the likes of V Ajith and Bhavani Rajput also put in a fine performance in the raiding department. We played as a complete team.”

For the Jaipur Pink Panthers, Arjun Deshwal stood out yet again, scoring a total of 17 points, of which 16 were raid points. He had 15 successful raids out of 20. However, the Sunil Malik is not perturbed about the fact that other teams might target him. He said, “If the opposition teams try to slow down Arjun in any game, we have the likes of Ajith, Bhavani, Rahul Chaudhari, along with some young talented players in the squad, who can step up when needed. We have enough time before our next game to sort out such things.”

The Jaipur Pink Panthers were aware that they would not have it easy against U Mumba, and had made plans accordingly. Opening up further on how they worked out their plans, the captain said, “We had made our plans for the opposition players and were keen to execute them properly. The U Mumba raiders are good, but we were clear on not allowing the likes of Guman Singh any bonus points during the game. Amirmohammad Zafardanesh was also someone we didn’t want to concede bonus points too, as those points can be difficult to cover up at times.”

Up next for the Jaipur Pink Panthers will be a very important phase, as they play their home leg in Jaipur (12-17 January). The Season 9 champions will face the Telugu Titans in their opening game in Jaipur and aren’t taking them lightly. “We can’t take any team lightly during the Pro Kabaddi League. All the 12 teams involved are good squads and we will go in with solid preparations and hope to do well on the mat.”

From Yuva Kabaddi to the big leagues: The rise of young Bengal Warriors’ raider Nitin Kumar

Mumbai, 7th January 2023: With 67 raid points in eight matches, young right-raider Nitin Kumar Dhankad has been a revelation for the Bengal Warriors in Season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League. At 22, he has the second-highest raid points in his team, behind the mighty Maninder Singh who is second on the charts in the opening stages of the season with 89 Raid Points to his name. And it is no surprise that the young star is so good, given where he started his career as a raider.

“I started my career at the Pardeep Narwal Academy in Sonipat under coach Naresh Narwal. I have always had the support of my family. My family has never had a problem with me playing Kabaddi, right from when I started, till now that I am a kabaddi player with the Bengal Warriors,” said the young raider speaking ahead of their next match against the Haryana Steelers on January 7.

His talent in the sport of Kabaddi was quite evident, and eventually, he began proving himself in the Yuva Kabaddi Series with the Hampi Heroes in 2022. Nitin showed his class as a raider, with his team finishing third in the tournament. The Haryana-based youngster is proud of his performance and that helped him seal a contract with the Capri Sport-owned side.

“Participating in the Yuva Kabaddi league was a very good experience for me. After that, we had a trial for the Pro Kabaddi League, Where I performed to the best of my abilities. After that, I played a couple of tournaments in Mumbai where I performed well.

“I am very grateful to Capri Sports who have given me a chance to pursue a career in Kabaddi, and playing for the Bengal Warriors in the Pro Kabaddi League is now a dream come true. The rise of a league like the PKL has been a grace for Kabaddi players and now with the Yuva Kabaddi Series developing players like me has given us a lot of hope for the future, both economically and as a fan of Kabaddi,” said an emotional Nitin.

The Bengal Warriors and their form in season 10 of the PKL makes for a bright future, believes the right raider. “Winning and losing is a part of this game. Here and there we can make mistakes, but we need to learn how to work on those mistakes. We need to talk to each other and work with each other so that we can improve the team together as a group.

“We have almost half a season left and a lot more to offer the team. When we leave here at the end of the season, we will learn a lot more than we did at the start of the season. We have 2 matches in Mumbai for this leg of the pro kabaddi league. We are going to give everything that we can as a team and win both matches,” concluded Nitin.

PKL 10: Gujarat Giants stage epic comeback to beat Telugu Titans

6th January, MUMBAI: The Gujarat Giants beat Telugu Titans 37-30 at the DOME by NSCI in Mumbai to rise to second on the table. The Giants defender Deepak Singh collected an outstanding 9 tackle points to help his side register a comeback victory. The Titans meanwhile remain rooted to the bottom of the table, and are now on a four-match losing streak.

Sehrawat kicked off the game, right off the whistle registered a SUPER RAID to give his side the lead. A long back and forth ensued, with both teams trading raids at regular intervals. The Titans raiding was hugely dependent on Sehrawat and true to form he registered over half his team’s raid points in the first half.

While the Giants formidable defence kept the Titans on their toes, in the final five minutes of the half, it was the Titans defending that kept them alive. Facing an all-out, the Titans raider S Sanjeevi capitalised on a series of errors by the Giants defence to stay in the game. From there they produced three SUPER TACKLES, one after the other to not just stave an all-out but also keep the lead at the break.

Despite that first half resistance, it didn’t take the Giants too long into the second period to inflict the first ALL OUT of the game as the Titans saw their lead cut down to a single point.

The lead did not last long as the Giants ramped up their gameplay, and the Titans, for their part faltered. Too many defensive errors, and their inability to revive Sehrawat saw them suffer a second ALL OUT with less than a quarter of the game to play.

Once in the lead, the Giants did not loosen their grip, as they wrapped up a brilliant and deserved come from behind victory.

PKL 10: Arjun Deshwal’s Super 10 powers Jaipur Pink Panthers to 41-30 win over U Mumba

6th January, Mumbai: Reigning champions Jaipur Pink Panthers continued their rich vein of form as they rode on skipper Arjun Deshwal’s Super 10 to defeat U Mumba 41-31 in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match at the DOME by NSCI in Mumbai. Arjun (17 raid points), Ankush (6 tackle points) and U Mumba’s Guman Singh (13 raid points) were the star performers of the game.

U Mumba, the home side, struggled to get going in the first half and relied heavily on Guman’s raiding. He scored 10 of U Mumba’s 13 points in the first 20 minutes as the defence managed just 1 tackle point. Jaipur Pink Panthers were also shaky in defence but their 3-man raiding unit of Arjun, V Ajith and Bhavani Rajput came to their rescue.

A multi-point raid from Arjun produced the first ALL OUT of the game as Jaipur Pink Panthers took a 12-5 lead in the 7th minute. A few minutes later, Ajith struck and Jaipur Pink Panthers had twice as many points as their opponents did at 18-9. Guman, U Mumba’s main hope, brought up his Super 10 in the 16th minute and also crossed the 300 raid points mark, but his side continued to trail by 9 points at the break.

Yet another multi-point raid from Arjun early in the second half saw him reach a Super 10 and become the first raider to cross 100 raid points this season. It took Jaipur Pink Panthers 8 minutes into the second half to inflict an ALL OUT as Arjun’s 2-point raid and Reza Mirbagheri’s tackle put them in the driver’s seat. They led 33-19 with 12 minutes left on the clock.

U Mumba mounted a late fightback, courtesy of big raids from Jai Bhagwan and Alireza Mirzaeian, but it was too little too late for them to catch up to Jaipur Pink Panthers’ ever-increasing lead. Ankush, last season’s best defender, completed his High 5 as Jaipur Pink Panthers handed U Mumba their first loss of their home leg.

‘Defender Bittu grabbed his opportunity with both hands,’ says U Mumba’s Head Coach Gholamreza Mazandarani

MUMBAI, 6th January 2024: U Mumba put up a clinical performance to register their fifth victory on the trot in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 on Friday. Defender Bittu, who made his PKL debut in the match against Bengaluru Bulls, was the star on the night with 6 tackle points.

When asked about the defender’s performance, U Mumba’s Head Coach Gholamreza Mazandarani said, “Bittu is a skillful player and he needed a chance to play. He has grabbed his opportunity with both hands. I had said before the season that we have some surprises in store for the U Mumba fans. We have some really good talents on our bench. I hope they go on to become stars in the Pro Kabaddi League.”

Mazandarani further added, “If we have a 14-15 point lead in the match then we will try new players for 2-3 minutes like we did against Bengaluru Bulls. The new players will take some time to adjust to our plans.”

Speaking about Surinder Singh’s leadership this season, the Head Coach expressed, “He’s a good captain and he understands the match very well. He knows exactly what’s required to be done in every kind of match situation. A good leader on the mat makes the coach’s job very easy. He has a good camaraderie with all the members of the U Mumba team as well.”

Meanwhile, Surinder Singh spoke about the team’s overall performance against the Bulls, “We are really happy to start our home leg with a victory. The team played according to the plans we had devised for this game. We’ll continue to play in the same manner in the rest of the games as well.”

U Mumba will be next in action when they take on Jaipur Pink Panthers in Mumbai on Saturday.

PKL 10: U Mumba begin home leg in style, beat Bengaluru Bulls 40-35

5th January, MUMBAI: U Mumba got their home leg off to a rollicking start as they earned a commanding 40-35 win over Bengaluru Bulls in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match at the DOME by NSCI in Mumbai. U Mumba’s Bittu, making his PKL debut, impressed with 6 tackle points.

Buoyed by a boisterous home crowd, U Mumba went all guns blazing from the first raid and inflicted an ALL OUT as early as the 7th minute. Guman Singh and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh picked points at will and the U Mumba defence was rock-solid as Bittu’s tackle on Aman put U Mumba ahead 11-3.

Bengaluru Bulls were forced to play catch up thereon. Their first tackle point came only in the 11th minute and that summed up their defensive show as they struggled to contain U Mumba’s three-pronged raiding unit. Bulls’ ace raider Bharat was unable to find a rhythm and Vikash Kandola offered some hope but failed to capitalize on numerous chances to inflict the ALL OUT on U Mumba. The home team played with 3 men for nearly 5 minutes and held on to go into the break with a 19-10 lead.

U Mumba extended their lead early into the second half as Zafardanesh’s multi-point raid reduced the Bulls to 2 men. Sushil came off the bench to the Bulls’ rescue and scored 6 quickfire points and Aman claimed a SUPER TACKLE, but it still wasn’t enough to stop U Mumba from grabbing a second ALL OUT. With 12 minutes left, the hosts sat pretty at 28-18.

U Mumba brought on a couple of players from the bench for the remainder of the match as they dominated the proceedings. Bittu, who replaced Rinku in the U Mumba line-up, trapped Bharat in a fine tackle to claim a High 5. Bulls’ veteran defender Surjeet Singh produced a moment of magic towards the end of the game as he outwitted 3 defenders to execute the first SUPER RAID of the match. Incidentally, this was also the first SUPER RAID of Surjeet’s PKL career.

Sachin Narwal followed it up with another sublime SUPER RAID and U Mumba had just 2 men left on the mat. The Bulls went on to bag an ALL OUT in the final raid of the match, but it wasn’t enough to erase their deficit as U Mumba clinched their 5th win on the trot.

PKL 10: Dabang Delhi KC stop Patna Pirates second half comeback to win

MUMBAI, 5th January 2024: Despite a remarkable second half comeback, the Patna Pirates fell short of one point loss (37-38) to Dabang Delhi KC at the Dome by NSCI on Wednesday. Dabang Delhi’s Ashu Malik (10 points) and Patna Pirates’ raiders Sachin (10 points) and M Sudhakar (9 points) were the standout performers of the evening.

In a blistering first half performance Dabang Delhi KC inflicted two ALL OUTs on the Pirates. The first came within the first 10 minutes, as they took a five-point lead, and the second followed merely six minutes later to give them a 10-point advantage.

Dabang Delhi KC’s raiders, Malik, Meetu Sharma and Manjeet logged an incredible 13 points from 20 raids in the first half, leaving the Patna Pirates chasing shadows. Malik in particular was not tackled even once in the first half even registering a SUPER RAID with a minute left in the half. Time and again Sachin had pulled the Pirates out of trouble in the season, but on the day, he was subdued by a confident Dabang Delhi KC defence as they took a 13 points advantage into the break.

The Patna irates defence finally clicked into place in the second half, and inflicted an ALL OUT of their own, to cut the lead down to six points. Sachin came to life soon after, registering a SUPER RAID to take out Ashish, Vikrant and Mohit to pull them closer.

The Patna Pirates surge continued through the half, as Sachin and M Sudhakar’s brilliant raiding kept them within three points till late in the game. In the end though, Dabang Delhi KC held on by running down the clock to take the win.

PKL 10: Visvanth V and I will refurbish the homes affected by floods in Thoothukudi : Masanamuthu Lakshnanan

MUMBAI, 5th January 2024: Masanamuthu Lakshnanan was the talk of the town when he was picked by the Tamil Thalaivas for INR 31.6 lakh in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 Auction last year. However, Lakshnanan’s home in his village in Thoothukudi was damaged due to the heavy floods in the region in December.

The raider said that he’s taking the responsibility of building a new home for his parents, “My parents are currently staying in a school in the village. The government has made temporary homes in the school for all the people, who have been affected by floods. We are going to build a hut before we can complete building the new home.”

Furthermore, Lakshnanan and U Mumba’s Visvanth V will donate funds for the renovation of all the homes that were affected by the floods, “Visvanth V, who is also from Thoothukudi, and myself are going to donate funds to refurbish the homes, which were affected by the floods in our district. I am going to donate the entire amount (INR 31.6 lakh) I earned at the Pro Kabaddi League Auction last year.”

When asked about how he started playing kabaddi, Lakshnanan said, “I started playing kabaddi in the sixth standard in my village, which is in Thoothukudi district. I moved to a different school in the eleventh standard and improved my game even more with the coaches present in that school. Post my schooling, my game improved even more when I joined the Sports Authority of India in Chennai.”

The raider expressed that his parents weren’t too happy with his move to Chennai, “My parents weren’t too keen to see me become a kabaddi player because it’s an injury-prone game and they half-heartedly sent me to Chennai. I moved from my village to the SAI hostel at the age of 18. I moved out of the hostel and I took a room on rent recently. I work as a Tax Assistant in the Income Tax Department in Chennai when I am not playing kabaddi.”

Masanamuthu Lakshnanan, who has played three games in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 so far, will be hoping to play a major role in Tamil Thalaivas’ campaign in the team’s upcoming matches in the season.

PKL 10: U Mumba’s return reignites Kabaddi fervour in the City of Dreams

Mumbai, January 4, 2024: U Mumba will be looking to carry their momentum in the ongoing 10th Season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) as they return to Mumbai after a four-year-long hiatus. U Mumba will play four high-octane matches at the DOME, NSCI, during the Mumbai-leg which will feature a total of 11 matches.

U Mumba has been on a roll this season, winning five of their seven matches played so far, including four back-to-back wins and are making positive strides towards a return to the playoffs. Rinku, debutant Sombir and team vice-captain Mahender Singh have been setting the mat on fire with their performances as top defenders, while Iranian recruit, 19-year-old Amirmohammad Zafardanesh has also emerged as a find of the tournament, and the best raider for the team with 64 raid points so far.

“Our primary goal has been to secure a spot in the playoffs and showcase consistency and determination throughout and I’m delighted with the performances the boys have been putting up. Winning five out of the seven matches & four successive matches for the first time since Season 6 signifies the hard work done pre-season, the team camaraderie and the belief that this young UMumba team have for each other. Our spirit and excitement are very high to play in Mumbai after four long years and delight the home crowd. After becoming the first & only team in the Pro Kabaddi League to have registered 100 wins in PKL history, U Mumba will be seeking to continue their formidable run in the 10th Season when they take on Bengaluru Bulls on Friday.

“Playing before the fans at home will boost the side to deliver their A game. To me every game whether home or away is equally important but we hope to make use of the home advantage with our fans cheering us on during the Mumbai leg. If you analyse the seven matches we have played, the one we could not win went down to the wire and the last few games has seen tremendous improvement in terms of strategy under pressure,” coach Mazandarani said.

PKL 10: Puneri Paltan demolish U.P. Yoddhas to record sixth win on the trot

NOIDA, 3rd January 2024: Puneri Paltan recorded their sixth victory in a row beating the U.P. Yoddhas 40-31 in front of their home crowd at the last home game for U.P. Yoddhas at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Wednesday. Mohammadreza Chiyaneh’s brilliant defensive nous saw him log 7 points as captain Aslam Inamdar took 11 to keep his team at the top of the table.

In an electric, high scoring first half, it was the Paltans who started off quicker, not just logging quick raid points but also ensuring the U.P. Yoddhas record breaking raider Pardeep Narwal did not log any for the first 10 minutes of the game. It was high energy and high-risk play, initiated by Mohammadreza Chiyaneh and Aslam Inamdar which paid dividends. The Paltan inflicted the first ALL OUT in the first five minutes to take a 10-4 lead.

The setback woke the U.P. Yoddhas out of their slumber and despite Narwal’s inability to log points, they crawled back into the game. AS it was, it was just the lift Narwal needed, as he logged his first two points of the game in quick succession in the last five minutes of the half, before displaying a remarkable bit of strength to single handedly inflict an ALL OUT on the Paltan and drag the score to 20-18.

The Paltan did not let that setback hurry them into changing strategy, and they kept up their game plan and the lead through the second half. In a back and forth period though the U.P. Yoddhas kept them on their toes, and despite going down in numbers stayed within two points.

A SUPER TACKLE with five minutes left turned the game into a nailbiter, but almost immediately the Paltan killed the game off. They inflicted a second ALL OUT with barely two minutes left to take a seven-point lead, and then Akash Shinde applied the cherry, picking up a SUPER RAID to seal the game 40-31.

PKL 10: Arjun and Reza shine as Jaipur Pink Panthers ease past Haryana Steelers

NOIDA, 3rd January: Defending champions Jaipur Pink Panthers rode on Arjun Deshwal’s raiding brilliance as they beat Haryana Steelers 45-34 in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Wednesday.

Arjun (14 raid points), Reza Mirbagheri (7 tackle points) and Ankush (5 tackle points) were the top performers for Jaipur Pink Panthers, while Chandran Ranjit (11 raid points) and Mohit Nandal (5 tackle points) were Haryana Steelers’ best players on the night.

There was a surprise in both teams’ starting 7 as Haryana Steelers raider Chandran got his first game of the season, while Rahul Chaudhari was named in the Jaipur Pink Panthers squad. The two veteran raiders began the proceedings for their teams and Chandran was off to a good start as he struck in each of his initial raids. It was only a matter of time before Arjun Deshwal joined the party, and when he did, he quickly swung the momentum in Jaipur Pink Panthers’ favour.

Arjun played an instrumental role in the first ALL OUT as he escaped Mohit’s ankle hold and then landed a back-kick on Mohit Nandal and then Rahul tagged Rahul Sethpal soon after to put his side ahead 17-13 with a little over 4 minutes to go. He then completed his Super 10 within the 1st half as his men went into the break with a healthy lead.

Haryana Steelers got off to a superb start in the 2nd half and some solid work from Mohit and Chandran got the side within the cusp of an ALL OUT, but SUPER TACKLES from Lucky Sharma and Reza helped the Jaipur Pink Panthers stay afloat. However, Chandran produced a multi-point raid in the 29th minute to finally grab the ALL OUT. The Haryana Steelers trailed only by 1 point at 28-29 at this point and were within touching distance of a comeback, but Arjun dashed their hopes.

Arjun, who was the most successful raider last season, got Mohit and Rahul first and then came back to oust Jaideep Dahiya and Vinay to lead his side to another ALL OUT. Jaipur Pink Panthers led by 9 points with 4 minutes to go and had the game in the bag. The match ended with Bhavani Rajput escaping Jaideep’s grasp as the Jaipur Pink Panthers notched up their 4th win in 5 games.

PKL 10: Ashu Malik plays captain’s role as Dabang Delhi beat Gujarat Giants 35-28

NOIDA, 2nd January: Dabang Delhi extended their unbeaten run to 4 games as they earned a 35-28 comeback win over Gujarat Giants in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Tuesday. Stand-in skipper Ashu Malik was the star performer for Dabang Delhi as he finished with a Super 10, while Manjeet grabbed 9 raid points.

Dabang Delhi got off to a strong start as they took a 4-0 lead, but Gujarat Giants worked their way back into the game through a superb multi-point raid from Rakesh HS. Much like Rakesh, Parteek Dahiya also produced a 2-point raid soon after, which caused plenty of trouble for Dabang Delhi as they were reduced to 1 defender. The inevitable occurred soon after as Dabang Delhi, playing without their captain Naveen Kumar, were on the receiving end of an ALL OUT and Gujarat Giants led 11-9.

Fazel Atrachali, captain of the Gujarat Giants, achieved a massive milestone as he trapped Ashu in one of his trademark ankle holds and went on to reach the 450-tackle points milestone. The Iranian’s defender’s team went into the interval leading 16-14.

Manjeet, Dabang Delhi’s second raider of the game, got his side off to a fiery start in the second half and then Ashu took over the reins. Ashu, captaining Dabang Delhi in Naveen’s absence, outwitted 4 defenders in 2 raids, including Fazel, to put Gujarat Giants in a spot of bother. Ashu was in the thick of things again as he then executed a tackle on Sonu Jaglan to put his team ahead. The ALL OUT followed soon after and Dabang Delhi cruised to a 4-point lead at 28-24.

Both sides traded blows in the final 5 minutes, but Dabang Delhi’s lead proved to be too steep for Gujarat Giants to catch up to. Ashu got the better of Fazel yet again off his final raid and completed his Super 10 as Dabang Delhi sealed a hard-fought comeback win.

‘Aslam and Mohit have worked on their defensive skills on their own,’ says Puneri Paltan’s Head Coach BC Ramesh

NOIDA, 2nd January 2024: The Puneri Paltan continued their brilliant form as they registered a 54-18 victory over Telugu Titans in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 on Monday. Speaking about the match, Puneri Paltan’s Head Coach BC Ramesh said, “We decided to play patiently at the beginning of the game. If we played too aggressively then the match could’ve gotten close. Aslam told me that we didn’t need to take any risks and the players played sensibly throughout the game.”

While Captain Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat are primarily in the team for their raiding abilities, they also contributed to the defence unit with 5 tackle points against the Titans. When asked about their defensive abilities, the Head Coach said, “Aslam and Mohit have put in efforts to improve as defenders on their own. Aslam stopped Pawan Sehrawat from taking bonus points two or three times in the match.”

The Puneri Paltan are currently at the top of the table with 7 wins from 8 games. Speaking about the team’s tremendous form this season, Captain Aslam Inamdar said, “Our team is coordinating well on the mat. And the defenders have been pulling successful tackles consistently. The raiders are also supporting the defence unit and the confidence is high within our camp. Our team combination is working well for us.”

Inamdar further added, “We’ll continue to play the same way in the upcoming matches as well. Every match is a challenge for us. We cannot take any team loosely. We’ll keep giving it our best and achieve our goals in the end.”

The Puneri Paltan will be next in action when they take on U.P. Yoddhas in Noida on Wednesday, 03 January 2024.

PKL 10: Puneri Paltan produce kabaddi masterclass, defeat Telugu Titans by massive 36-point margin

NOIDA, 1st January: Puneri Paltan produced a kabaddi masterclass on Monday as they defeated bottom-placed Telugu Titans by a whopping 36 points in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match at the Noida Indoor Stadium. Mohit Goyat was the star performer in Puneri Paltan’s 54-18 win, while Abinesh Nadarajan and Gaurav Khatri registered High 5s.

Telugu Titans were bolstered by captain Pawan Sehrawat’s return to the team, but he was tackled within 8 seconds of the start of the game. Puneri Paltan banked on their defence as Abinesh and Iran’s Mohammadreza Shadloui kept the opposition at bay. Telugu Titans’ raiders found little success as the side trailed 6-7 mid-way into the opening half.

Telugu Titans did well to stay within touching distance, but were completely undone by a series of 3 raids. It began with a SUPER RAID from Mohit that saw Pawan, Hamid Nader and Nitin off to the bench and the next raid saw Shadloui trap Robin Chaudhary in an ankle hold. The third raid was a mere formality as Prafull Zaware surrendered to Aslam Inamdar and Puneri Paltan inflicted the first ALL OUT. Their lead grew to 7 points at 16-9.

Pawan’s men managed just one point in the last 5 minutes as Puneri Paltan ended the 1st half leading 23-10. There was more trouble in store for Telugu Titans as they faced an ALL OUT in the very 1st minute of the 2nd half and the gap between the teams grew further.

Puneri Paltan seized complete control of the game as Abinesh dished out tackles at will, while Aslam and Mohit offered the Telugu Titans defence no respite. Pawan was off-colour through the game and Telugu Titans were on the receiving end of another ALL OUT right after Shadlou executed a strong dash to deny Pawan. Mohit swept through Telugu Titans’ defenders and Puneri Paltan led by a mammoth 28 points at 39-11 with 10 minutes left.

Puneri Paltan put on a masterclass as they went on to inflict a fourth ALL OUT 5 minutes later. Mohit won points in raid and defence as the scoreline read 48-13, with the men in orange leading by 35 points. Puneri Paltan went on to give their bench a chance and Aditya Shinde gave a good account of himself as his side wrapped up a massive win.

PKL 10: Pardeep Narwal’s season-best 21 points in vain as Sachin, Neeraj take Patna Pirates to victory against UP Yoddhas

NOIDA, 1st January 2024: The Patna Pirates continued their winning form with another victory as they beat home side UP Yoddhas 48-41 in their Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 clash at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Monday. The plaudits fell to the lap of raider Sachin and his brilliant SUPER 10 (in addition to his two tackle points), as well as their skipper Neeraj Kumar’s HIGH 5, which was enough to take his team to victory despite a fighting season-best 21 points from league legend and UP Yoddhas skipper Pardeep Narwal against his former team.

The home side were pegged back by the Patna Pirates early in the game as the team from Bihar got the UP Yoddhas ALL OUT in the first 10 minutes of the match. This gave them an eight-point lead after the Pirates took advantage of multiple unsuccessful raids by the side from Uttar Pradesh.

All eyes were on leading PKL raider Pardeep Narwal, with the fan favourite starting the match on a positive note, getting a couple of successful raids as well. For the Patna-based side, it was their raider Sachin fetching a majority of the points and racing to eight raid points in the first half. But his run was stopped beautifully by the UP Yoddhas’ defenders who were slowly clawing their way back into the game after a SUPER TACKLE from substitute Shivam Chaudhary.

This was not enough to hold back the Pirates, who had a comfortable 12-point lead heading into half-time after a late ALL OUT against the Yoddhas, their second of the match in the first half.

The second half started with a bang for the home team as Pardeep displayed why he is one of the best raiders in the league. He eliminated three of the opponent’s defenders — Ankit, Manish and Sudhakar M — to complete an exhilarating SUPER RAID, as well as his SUPER 10 with one swift move.

The Pirates, led by veteran defender Neeraj Kumar who bagged a HIGH 5 for himself, were off guard in the first five minutes of the second half. They found their feet in the game after Neeraj got Pardeep to win a SUPER TACKLE, and then Manjeet joined the party in a DO-OR-DIE raid, with Nitesh Kumar, Vijay Malik, and Sumit finding themselves off the mat.

Manjeet struck once again soon after, as the Yoddhas were caught ALL OUT for the third time in the match and the Pirates began taking an unassailable lead in the game. This did not stop the rampage created by Sachin during the match, with his all-round performance taking all the attention by the end of the match. The Yoddhas getting the Pirates ALL OUT in the final two minutes of the clash did not do much, with the Patna-based team eventually securing a seven-point victory over their rivals.

‘I brought Ran Singh into the game to disrupt Thalaivas’ game plan,’ says Bengaluru Bulls’ Head Coach Randhir Singh

NOIDA, 1st January 2024: The Bengaluru Bulls pulled off a thrilling 38-37 victory against Tamil Thalaivas in Noida on Sunday. Speaking about the match, Bengaluru Bulls’ Head Coach Randhir Singh said, “We should have won this game easily, but a few Super Tackles against our raiders hurt us. Our defenders played well, but the raiders couldn’t execute their plans at times.”

The Head Coach further added, “Sachin Narwal won the game for us. I took a risk and asked him to go for bonus points. He attained three bonus points for the team.”

When asked about why he played Ran Singh instead of Aman in the first half, Randhir Singh said, “I knew that the Thalaivas had prepared to take on Aman in the defence unit and therefore I brought Ran Singh into the game. Every raider would’ve tried to catch Aman so I put Ran Singh on the mat to disrupt their plans.”

The Bengaluru Bulls have experienced an up-and-down season so far. They are currently in seventh place with 25 points in 10 games. When asked if there will be a change in their style of play in the upcoming games, Randhir Singh said, “The Bengaluru Bulls are known for fighting till the very end. We will definitely keep giving our best to win games. We have lost six games in the competition so far, but we don’t want to change our playing style at all.”

PKL 10: ‘Ashu has taken up Naveen’s role in the side,’ says Dabang Delhi K.C.’s Head Coach Rambir Singh Khokhar

NOIDA, 31st December 2023: The Dabang Delhi K.C. produced a clinical performance to defeat U.P. Yoddhas 35-25 in Noida on Saturday even without their star raider Naveen.

Speaking about playing matches while Naveen recovers from his knee injury, Dabang Delhi K.C.’s Head Coach Rambir Singh Khokhar said, “It’s difficult to play without Naveen because he’s such a good raider and scores a lot of points for us. However, Ashu has taken up his mantle and the defence unit’s support helped us defeat the Yoddhas.”

Meanwhile, stand-in Captain Ashu Malik, who scored 11 raid points in the match, said, “Our coach told me that I needed to take Naveen’s responsibilities since he was not there and Manjeet needed to take my role. Everyone played really well and our defence unit supported the raiders brilliantly.”

Malik further added, “We have a lot of good raiders on the side. There’s Meetu Sharma, Manjeet and myself. Additionally, there are good raiders on our bench as well. And everyone has been in good form.”

While the Delhi side’s defence unit put up a fantastic performance against the Yoddhas, defender Mohit couldn’t score a tackle point in the game. When asked about Mohit’s game, the Head Coach said, “Mohit carried out his role exceptionally. It’s not only about scoring tackle points. He supported the defenders in catching raiders against U.P. Yoddhas. And he has been scoring tackle points regularly as well. He has also caught top raiders such as Pawan Sehrawat.”

The Dabang Delhi K.C. will take on Gujarat Giants in their next match of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 on Tuesday.

‘Our defenders are playing a bit too aggressively,’ says U.P. Yoddhas’ Assistant Coach Upendra Malik

NOIDA, 30th December 2023: The U.P. Yoddhas bounced back into form after defeating Bengaluru Bulls 34-33 in their first home game in Noida on Friday. The Bulls fought hard in the last few minutes of the game, but the Yoddhas held their nerve and wrapped up a thrilling win in the end.

Speaking about the team’s performance, U.P. Yoddhas’ Assistant Coach Upendra Malik said, “Our defence unit is playing well, but I feel all the defenders are playing a bit too aggressively at times. We have to ensure that only a few defenders play an attacking game according to the raiders we are up against.”

Captain Pardeep Narwal, who was caught out four times before scoring his first raid point, registered another Super 10 on the night. When asked about his game, Narwal said, “I was just looking to score one or two raid points in the beginning and put the opposition in the backfoot. Our defenders played really well and kept bringing me back into the game.”

The Captain further added, “Gill was picking up raid points in the opening minutes of the game, so we sent him for more raids. Later on, I started doing well so I went for more raids.”

Speaking about how he keeps himself motivated to produce consistent performances, Narwal said, “Our coach keeps motivating me. If I don’t do well in a game then he gives me the confidence to perform in the next game. The entire team and my family gave me their support for me to produce a good performance against the Bengaluru Bulls.”

The U.P. Yoddhas will be up against Dabang Delhi K.C. in their next game at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

Skipper Maninder, coach Baskaran ready for Gujarat Giants battle as Bengal Warriors look to bounce back

Noida, 30th December, 2023: The Bengal Warriors start the Noida leg of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 with a match of exciting proportions against the Gujarat Giants at the Noida Indoor Stadium on Saturday. The side are ready for the challenge that will be presented by the Giants, and skipper Maninder Singh is sure that ‘Josh’ in the team is very high for the battle ahead.

“The Josh in the team is very good. The practice is going on very well and we are prepared for the next match against the Gujarat Giants. Both the teams are very good, so the responsibility to win is on both sides. But when you face players like Fazel (Atrachali) and Sonu (Jaglan), there are plans that the team makes,” said the star raider.

His confidence in the team was echoed by head coach K Baskaran, who explained that the team works their strategies and plans meticulously, ahead of a high-level encounter such as this. “When you play teams like Gujarat, we have to maintain the players’ fitness levels, agility and competitiveness. We analyse every possible situation and player and prepare our plans accordingly.”

“Each player in an opposition team has a unique profile as to how they function on the mat. And we have to prepare in such a way that all our bases are covered, because one mistake can change the momentum in such a game. And while we keep an eye on the opponents, we also work very hard to ensure we are executing our plans properly, and being the best version of ourselves. That way we are confident of our abilities, and it helps us stay motivated as well,” he added.

The legendary coach also lauded the management of new owners Capri Sports. “Excellent management from the Capri team. When they came the first time, they encouraged us and motivated us all the way. They gave us only one mantra ‘ We should play our own game. Don’t think about the result, win or lose, don’t think about that. We have to give full 100 per cent dedication, with team spirit and that is enough.’ They are very helpful and we will do better for the team,” shared an excited coach, Baskaran.

Adding to this, skipper Maninder also shrugged off any sort of pressure on the shoulders of his players and himself, given the many years that he has been a part of this sport. “As we are experienced players and we have played this game for a very long time. There is no pressure, especially in such big matches. We need to give the younger players more chances to raid as well,” he concluded.
