PKL 10: Mohit Goyat and Mohammadreza Shadloui Chiyaneh script perfect end to Puneri Paltan’s home leg with 43-18 victory

PUNE, 20th December, 2023: A superlative performance by the Puneri Paltan saw them decimate Bengaluru Bulls 43-18 in the final game of their home leg at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Wednesday. The win saw Paltan extend their stay at the top of the table and increase their score differential to an incredible +72. The PKL Season 10 will move to Chennai from 22 December 2023.

In a supremely dominant first-half performance, every part of the Puneri Paltan machine worked with precision and synchronisation. They inflicted their first ALL OUT on the Bulls within the first five minutes to take a 10-2 lead. Their defenders in particular were on fire, matching their raiders almost point for point through the half.

A second ALL OUT followed soon after, and by this time the Paltan were streaking away into the distance with a 23-5 lead. The Paltan defence missed just three tackles in the first half, taking an extraordinary 10 points from them. They went into half-time leading by a massive 20 points.

The home side inflicted a third ALL OUT in the opening minutes of the second half to take a virtually unassailable 33-10 lead. From thereon it became a battle between the Bulls pride and Mohammadreza Chiyaneh’s determination to grab as many tackle points in as many ways as possible. Chiyaneh missed a mere 2 tackles all evening to finish with 7 points (one even coming from a raid), as the Paltan wrapped up a comfortable 26-point victory.

PKL 10: Arjun Deshwal comes back to form as Jaipur Pink Panthers beat U.P. Yoddhas by 17 points

PUNE, 20th December 2023: Defending champions Jaipur Pink Panthers gave an incredible account of themselves as they stormed to a 41-24 triumph over U.P Yoddhas in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Wednesday. Arjun Deshwal got back to his scoring ways as he finished with 13 points.

Both teams got off to a cautious start, with the Panthers narrowly leading 6-5 after the first 10 minutes. And then the Panthers got going – Arjun made light work of the Yoddhas’ defence and Panthers’ captain Sunil Kumar produced a brilliant tackle on Vijay Malik to bag an ALL OUT in the 14th minute. The Panthers raced to an 11-6 lead and went on to seize control of the game.

Arjun got rid of four defenders in as many raids and a couple of sharp tackles saw the Panthers inflict a second ALL OUT within four minutes. The scoreline read 20-7 in the Panthers’ favour and the Yoddhas were completely undone. The defending champs went into the break with a 15-point lead at 24-9 and they were in complete control of the match.

The Yoddhas gained momentum in the second half via two superb tackles from Gurdeep and a burst of pace from Pardeep Narwal offered them hope. The Record Breaker scored points in four successive raids, the last of which saw him get past Ashish and toss aside Lucky Sharma to claim an ALL OUT. The deficit was cut down to eight points and the Panthers led 28-20.

But the score difference was too much for the Yoddhas to catch up to, despite their defence shaping up better. The game was put to rest when Arjun produced a mindblowing SUPER RAID in the final minute of the game, which also led to a third ALL OUT for the Panthers. That final raid saw Arjun pick up his third Super 10 of the season and gave the Panthers a massive 17-point victory. This is their third win of the season.

PKL 10: Haryana Steelers earn gritty win over Gujarat Giants, extend unbeaten run to four games

PUNE, 19th December, 2023: Haryana Steelers put up a splendid all-around display to earn a gritty 31-29 victory over Gujarat Giants in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Tuesday. In the process, the Steelers became the first team in season 10 to register four successive wins.

The Steelers got off the blocks well and quickly climbed to a 5-1 lead as the Giants fought back through a Fazel Atrachali SUPER TACKLE and a clever toe touch from Rohit Gulia. The two teams remained neck and neck for most of the opening half and the Steelers took a sizable lead when Mohit Nandal pinned Parteek Dahiya and brought up his High 5.

There was more trouble in store for the Giants as Vinay got the all-important ALL OUT in the 19th minute and the Steelers went into the interval leading 17-10. The Giants managed only 5 raid points in the first half, while the Steelers’ right cover Mohit single-handedly picked up 5 tackle points.

Giants coach Ram Mehar Singh’s half-time chat seemed to have made the difference as his men came out all guns blazing in the second half. Rohit produced an incredible SUPER RAID to reduce the Giants’ deficit to 4 points at 15-19 and a superb tackle from Mohammad Nabibakhsh saw the men in orange bag the ALL OUT and inch closer. The Giants scored 10 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, compared to the Steelers’ 3.

Sonu Jaglan came off the bench and got the Giants on level terms with a massive back-kick to make it 24-24 with seven minutes left on the clock. It was still anybody’s game, but the Steelers handled the pressure situations better to grab the win.

Ashish, who had a quiet evening, got his first point when it mattered the most as he trapped Sonu in an ankle hold with exactly 60 seconds left on the clock and Vinay followed it up with a solid two-point raid to extend the Steelers’ unbeaten streak.

UP Yoddhas Assistant Coach Upendra Malik discloses why Surender, not Pardeep Narwal, was UP Yoddhas’ main raider

Pune, 19th December 2023: In a twist of the tale, the UP Yoddhas put their money on Surender Gill and not the ever-reliant Pardeep Narwal to seal a hard-fought draw against the Bengal Warriors on Monday. The raider bagged an impressive 18 points, including 13 touch points, as his side secured an important win to stay in the race for the playoffs.

Speaking to the media post the match, UP Yoddhas assistant coach Upendra Malik revealed the thought process behind fielding a confident Gill ahead of Narwal, who managed two points across nine raids for his team. “It depends on the match strategies because when we felt that Surender Gill could perform well, we gave him more raiding opportunities.

“In the initial raids by Pardeep, the opposing team had 4 or 5 players on the mat, but Pardeep does well against 6 or 7 players. Since Bengal’s left defence was strong today, we gave Gill more chances to face them,” he further added.

After losing momentum in the second half of the match, the Yoddhas fought back in the final few raids to take the match to a tie, a result that was favourable for the side who were looking to improve on their fourth-place finish from season 9. “We should have won this match, but it ended in a tie. If there had been 2 seconds more on the clock for the final raid, the match would have been unfavourable for us. Therefore, we are happy to draw the match and take 3 points.”

Preview for the match on Wednesday:

The Jaipur Pink Panthers narrowly beat out the Patna Pirates in their last match and will be hoping to secure a big win to improve their score difference of -2. All eyes will be on Arjun Deshwal, whose raid percentage of 63% will be key in ending their inconsistent form in PKL 10. Meanwhile, the Yoddhas will be riding high after their tie against the Bengal Warriors, and apart from Pardeep Narwal, the focus will increase of Surender Gill after his brilliant outing.

In the other game of the night, the home side Puneri Paltan will need to win to take a substantial lead at the top of the points table. Led ably by skipper Aslam Inamdar, he will be key against the Bengaluru Bulls, who finally ended their four-match losing streak with the victory over the Jaipur Pink Panthers in their last match. Currently in the bottom half of the points table, the onus will be on Vishal Kandola and Bharat to lift their team back up.

PKL 10: Puneri Paltan win low-scoring thriller against Dabang Delhi K.C. to climb to the top of the table

PUNE, 18th December, 2023: Puneri Paltan’s young team battled against a hardened Dabang Delhi K.C. defence to record a 30-23 victory at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Monday. In a low-scoring game, where the two defences logged a combined 17 points, Puneri Paltan’s Aslam Inamdar (8 points) and Delhi’s Ashu Malik (9 points) were the standout raiders.

Puneri Paltan stormed out of the blocks, into an early lead and with Delhi missing their talisman Naveen Kumar, the going looked grim. With their numbers swiftly dwindling, it came down to a brilliant raid and then a SUPER TACKLE by Yogesh to hold the barrage. Eventually, though Dabang Delhi produced an ALL OUT to take a 13-8 lead.

The two teams were evenly matched defensively, but Naveen’s absence showed in the lack of raid points Dabang Delhi were able to accumulate. For Paltan, Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat logged 6 points each as they went into the break leading 18-12.

Recognising their weakness on the raid, Delhi tightened up in defence early in the second half, steadily gaining back points with stout defending that forced the Paltan to take more risks or go empty-handed.

The game turned into a defensive tactical masterclass with raid points coming at a premium — a mere 11 raid points came through the second period — as Paltan matched Delhi’s defensive grit toe to toe. Despite going down to three players at a time, Pankaj Mohite’s SUPER TACKLE pulled them out of trouble as they took a gritty, and deserved victory.

PKL 10: Surender, Nitin impress as Bengal Warriors and U.P. Yoddhas play out an enthralling tie

PUNE, 18th December, 2023: Bengal Warriors and U.P. Yoddhas played out an exciting 37-37 tie in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 game at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Monday. Interestingly, this was the second tied game of the season and the Warriors were a part of both matches.

As the scoreline suggested, there was hardly anything to separate the two sides all through the game. Surender Gill got the U.P. Yoddhas going with a SUPER RAID, while Bengal Warriors struck back through Maninder Singh and Nitin Kumar. Pardeep Narwal, the Yoddhas skipper, had to wait as long as 12 minutes to get his first point as the U.P. Yoddhas began to sneak ahead.

The Yoddhas were reduced to four men a couple of times, but the Warriors raiders failed to capitalize. A couple of sharp tackles from Nitesh on Maninder and bonus points from Vijay Malik powered the Yoddhas to a four-point lead at 18-14 at the end of the first half. It was a tightly contested opening half that saw neither side claim an ALL OUT.

The game truly came alive in the second half when Gurdeep produced an ankle hold to stop Maninder and claim a SUPER TACKLE. The Yoddhas led 21-17 at this point, but that lead was short-lived as Shrikant Jadhav got a much-needed ALL OUT for the Warriors. Going up against a defence of two, Shrikant darted across the mat before forcing Hitesh into the lobby and then tagging Harendra Kumar to give his side a slender lead at 24-23.

However, Surender gave the Warriors little time to celebrate as he struck back with a SUPER RAID that put his side ahead and brought up his Super 10. The raider grew from strength to strength thereon and the Yoddhas rode on his raiding prowess to reduce the Warriors down to one man before Nitin was flattened on the mat. With five minutes to go, the Yoddhas led 35-30.

As was the theme of the game, the Warriors fought their way back through some resolute defending and key raid points from Maninder. Nitin, the Warriors’ best player on the evening, scalped two crucial points to make it 36-36, but both sides picked up a point each in the final minute to share the spoils.

‘V Ajith Kumar changed the game for us against Patna Pirates,’ says Jaipur Pink Panthers’ Captain Sunil Kumar

PUNE, 17th December 2023: The Jaipur Pink Panthers were in deep trouble when they were trailing 8-18 at the end of the first half against Patna Pirates on Sunday, however, V Ajith Kumar helped the Panthers score 21 points in the second half and clinch a thrilling 29-28 victory.

When asked about his team’s performance, Jaipur Pink Panthers’ Captain Sunil Kumar said, “Ajith Kumar changed the game for us in the second half. He helped us attain the momentum in our favour. Going into the second period, we knew that we had to bank on our raiders to reduce the gap since only they could collect 3-4 points on one raid. And Ajith Kumar stood up for us under pressure.”

The Jaipur Pink Panthers took a time out when they were leading by three points with just 31 seconds left on the clock. Speaking about the details which were discussed during the time out, the Captain said, “We planned to stop them from picking up a raid point in the dying minutes of the game and we managed to do that. Once we had stopped them from scoring a raid point, we knew that we could win the game even if we carried out an empty raid.”

Sunil Kumar further added, “The team’s morale is high right now. A win always gives a team confidence. We’ll play even better against U.P. Yoddhas and win that game as well.”

Preview for the match on Tuesday:

The Gujarat Giants will be hoping to bounce back into form after facing defeats against Patna Pirates and Jaipur Pink Panthers in their last two games, however, their opponents in their next match – Haryana Steelers have recorded victories in three consecutive matches. The Steelers will bank on raider Vinay, meanwhile, raider Sonu will be the one to watch out for in the Giants’ camp.

PKL 10:Guman and Zafardanesh put up fantastic performances as U Mumba defeat Tamil Thalaivas

PUNE, 17th December, 2023: A clinical performance saw U Mumba defeat Tamil Thalaivas 46-33 in their PKL Season 10 game at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Sunday. U Mumba’s raiding duo of Guman Singh and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh recorded Super 10s as they scored a massive 21 points in the game.

The two teams traded successful raids in the opening minutes, with neither budging an inch. Soon though the game was thrown wide open via Guman Singh’s SUPER RAID that opened up U Mumba’s lead. Guman would go into halftime with 11 points from 9 raids, a success rate of over 100 percent, as his team took 20 raid points from the first half.

While Guman took the spotlight, U Mumba’s second raider Amirmohammad Zafardanesh chipped away silently and was chiefly responsible for inflicting the first ALL OUT of the game as U Mumba took a 19-9 lead. They consolidated that further, taking an 11-point lead into the break.

While the Thalaivas stopped the flow of points briefly in the second period, U Mumba’s smart defending meant they never really got too close to chipping away the lead. Just when it seemed like U Mumba were struggling on the raid, Zafardanesh came up with a SUPER RAID to increase the gap.

That raid cascaded into a second ALL OUT as U Mumba took a commanding 40-24 lead with five minutes to play. It came down to the Thalaivas to try and cut their losses and salvage a point from the game, but U Mumba’s defence was in no mood to go soft as they took a massive victory.

PUNE, 17th December, 2023: The Patna Pirates raced away with an eight-point lead in the first half, however, the Jaipur Pink Panthers clawed their way back in the second half and pulled off a gripping 29-28 victory in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 on Sunday. Raider V Ajith Kumar was the star of the night with 14 raid points and two tackle points.

Sachin effected a raid and Ankit carried out a tackle point as the Pirates inched ahead at 2-0 in the 5th minute. After a few empty raids from both sides,  Ankit tackled Bhavani Rajput and Sandeep Kumar carried out a DO OR DIE raid to help the Pirates take a decent lead at 6-1 in the 10th minute. Moments later, the Pirates further extended their lead after inflicting the first ALL OUT of the match.Defender Sajin Chandrasekar upped his game as the Pirates raced away with a 10-point lead at 13-3 in the 13th minute. Arjun Deshwal pulled off a brilliant raid to take out Krishan and Sajin Chandrasekar, but the Pirates still held the advantage at 14-7 in the 18th minute. Deshwal tried to reduce the gap between the two sides, but the Pirates’ defence unit showcased top form. Sachin pulled off another raid in the 19th minute as the Pirates led 16-8 at the end of the first half.

Sandeep Kumar effected a couple of raids in the opening minutes of the second half as the Pirates continued to hold momentum at 18-10 in the 24th minute. Sachin carried out a brilliant raid and reduced the Panthers to just two members on the mat in the 26th minute. V Ajith Kumar took out Ankit and Sandeep Kumar to record a SUPER RAID, but the Pirates still stayed ahead at 22-15 in the 29th minute.

V Ajith Kumar scored a tackle and raid point to help the Panthers inch closer to the Pirates’ score at 18-22 in the 31st minute. ‘Our team is the best side in the Pro Kabaddi League,’ says Puneri Paltan Head Coach BC Ramesh

PUNE, 17th December 2023: The Puneri Paltan put up a magnificent performance to record a 49-19 victory against Bengal Warriors in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 in Pune on Saturday.

Speaking about their performance, the Puneri Paltan Head Coach BC Ramesh said, “The raiders and the defenders put up a complete performance against Bengal Warriors. Aslam is leading the team really well. He understood the match situations and utilized his players accordingly against the Bengal Warriors. He especially knew when the team needed to take bonus points and when to kill time during the game.”

Ramesh further added, “Our team is the best side in the league. We have the best raiders and defenders in the tournament. If the team plays as a unit then we will win all games.”

On a brilliant night for the Puneri Paltan, defender Sanket Sawant unfortunately couldn’t find a way to score a point. When asked about his thoughts on Sanket’s game, the Head Coach said, “There are very few left raiders in the league. So when a left raider suddenly comes into the attack after a flurry of right raiders, it takes some time for the left cover to gain momentum. However, Sanket is trying to perform well. There are very few left covers in India and we have one of the best in our team.”

Preview for the matches on Monday:

The Bengal Warriors will be looking to bounce back after a heavy defeat to Puneri Paltan in their last game, however, U.P. Yoddhas’ Pardeep Narwal and Surender Gill will pose a strong challenge to the Warriors.

The Puneri Paltan will be hoping to continue to put smiles on their fans’ faces in their home leg when they take on Dabang Delhi K.C., however, the team from the capital city is high on confidence after registering a clinical victory over Telugu Titans in their last game.

PKL 10: Naveen and Ashu Malik lead Dabang Delhi to clinical victory vs Telugu Titans

PUNE, 16th December, 2023: Dabang Delhi registered their second win of PKL Season 10 with a 51-40 win over the Telugu Titans at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Friday. While the high-profile raiding duo of Pawan Sehrawat and Naveen Kumar duly obliged with 14 points apiece, the real star was Ashu Malik, whose 16 points proved to be the difference between the two sides.

The opening passage of play was true to what was billed as a battle between the star raiders of each team as Naveen and Pawan Sehrawat went toe to toe with every raid. It was Delhi’s captain though who was getting back more touch points, and soon enough Delhi inflicted a first ALL OUT of the game to take a 11-3 lead.

Looking down the barrel, the Titans turned things around in a blistering passage of play, where they erased a nine-point deficit in a mere five minutes.

The pace of the game was relentless and yet again Delhi hit back. A three-point SUPER RAID by Naveen started a second Titans collapse with mere minutes remaining for the break. It came at a cost though as Naveen went off injured for the rest of the half — having logged a SUPER 10 already. Despite his absence, Delhi inflicted a second ALL OUT to take a commanding eight-point lead into the break.

The Titans piled on the pressure in the second half, and despite Naveen’s return to the mat, had Delhi on the ropes within the first 10 minutes itself. A SUPER TACKLE by Ashu Malik on Sehrawat staved off the inevitable, but soon enough the Titans got a second ALL OUT of their own to cut the lead to five points.

Malik took the mantle for Delhi’s revival, and soon enough was logging points with every raid, completing a super 10 of his own. His brilliance helped Delhi inflict a third ALL OUT and eventually wrap up an 11-point victory.

PKL 10: Puneri Paltan decimate table toppers Bengal Warriors in record-breaking PKL clash for home team

PUNE, 16th December, 2023: The Puneri Paltan bounced back ecstatically when they handed the Bengal Warriors a massive 49-19  loss — their first in PKL 10 — at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune on Saturday. The Paltan army, who went down to the Haryana Steelers on Friday night, never let the opponent raiders settle and their 24 tackle points is now a new record for a team in a single PKL match.

The home side did not let the occasion of facing the table toppers deter them from a perfect start. Their excellent defending got Maninder Singh in his first raid before Pankaj Mohite’s successful two-point raid gave the Paltan an early lead. However, the mighty Maninder can hardly be kept out of the action. The Warriors captain, continuing his form from their record-breaking win over Patna Pirates, equalled the score with a SUPER RAID, proving why he is one of the best raiders in the game.

Despite this, the Paltan army headed into the strategic time-out with a slender 7-6 advantage and built on it with an excellent SUPER TACKLE to grab three points off Maninder once again.

The Warriors buckled after their slow start and upped the ante in the final minutes of the first half. A second SUPER RAID in the game for Maninder eliminated Abinesh, Mohammadreza Chiyaneh and Pankaj Mohite, but Mohit Goyat and Aslam Inamdar’s ‘Never-Give-Up’ attitude got them two consecutive SUPER TACKLES.
.
Such was their defensive prowess in front of a boisterous home crowd that the Pune team managed 12 tackle points and just 6 raid points at the end of the first half, adding pressure on the Warriors with the score reading 20-12.

The side from Kolkata continued to be pegged back and were ALL OUT early in the second half as the Paltan kept up their phenomenal form. Such was the domination of the Puneri men on the night that Maninder Singh, who got 15 points in the last game, was silenced for much of the match.

For every point that the Warriors managed to score, the Paltan had the perfect answer. Left stunned by the all-round ability and the mat presence of the Puneri Paltan, the Warriors fell to a second ALL OUT late in the game, effectively ending any chances of a win for the PKL Season 7 winners.

PUNE, 16th December 2023: U Mumba registered a thrilling 42-40 victory over Patna Pirates in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 on Friday. The Iranian all-rounder Amirmohammad Zafardanesh was in the thick of things with 13 points in the game. He’s a very intelligent player and he’s a future Pro Kabaddi League star.

“The U Mumba Head Coach further spoke about his prime focus this season, “My main focus is to help the youngsters in the team. They are getting better with every game that we play. We currently have three young players — Zafardanesh, Visvanth and Sombir — in our team. I am going to play the other youngsters in the side as well as we progress through the tournament.

“Mazandarani also said that U Mumba’s defence unit has to improve for the team to have a better chance of winning matches, “Our defence unit certainly needs to get better. Our raiders are doing very well and we have good raiders on the bench as well. So if our defenders play better then we’ll win games with larger margins.

“Preview for the matches on Sunday:The Patna Pirates will be looking to bounce back after two consecutive defeats when they take on Jaipur Pink Panthers on Sunday, meanwhile, the Panthers will be looking to attain momentum after an up-and-down start to the season.

U Mumba will be hoping for Amirmohammad Zafardanesh to continue his brilliant form when they take on Tamil Thalaivas, however, the side from Tamil Nadu is high on confidence after pulling off a gripping victory against Telugu Titans in their previous encounter.

PKL 10: Haryana Steelers silence home crowd to defeat Puneri Paltan in a nail-biter

PUNE, 15th December, 2023: Despite the pressure from a partisan home crowd, the Haryana Steelers triumphed over Puneri Paltan 44-39 at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Friday. While Vinay’s 15 points were undoubtedly a huge contributor, it was the Steelers’ defensive duo Rahul Sethpal (6 points) and Jaydeep Dahiya (4 points) who were eventually responsible for their victory.

In a blistering start, Aslam Inamdar kicked off the game with a SUPER RAID to put the home side on the front foot. It didn’t last long and almost immediately the Steelers responded with a SUPER RAID of their own, Vinay netting five Paltan players to leave them reeling. The first ALL OUT followed soon after as the Steelers took an 11-7 lead.

Puneri Paltan did not let that dampen their spirits and slowly chipped away at the lead. It took two SUPER TACKLES in a row by Rahul Sethpal — who put in 4 of his team’s 6 tackle points in the half — to save the Steelers’ blushes. Eventually, though the Paltan inflicted an ALL OUT on the Steelers to take a 21-18 lead, which they took into the break.

The first half had been defined by high-quality raiding, with the teams logging a combined 25 raid points. The second half though belonged to a rejuvenated Steelers defence, who missed a mere three tackles in the period, while picking up a massive 9 points. Despite the Paltan’s raiders’ best efforts, the Steelers kept hurting them and keeping their numbers limited. They inflicted a second ALL OUT on the Paltan with two minutes remaining before wrapping up a 44-39 victory.

PKL 10: Iranian Amirmohammad Zafardanesh stars for U Mumba in a topsy-turvy game vs Patna Pirates

PUNE, 15th December, 2023: Amirmohammad Zafardanesh put up an inspiring performance to help U Mumba clinch a thrilling 42-40 victory over Patna Pirates at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Pune on Friday. The Iranian raider notched 13 points and he was ably supported by Visvanth V, who scored 8 points in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 match.

Guman Singh picked up a couple of raid points as U Mumba inched ahead at 3-2 in the 3rd minute. Both sides played out a neck-to-neck battle and were locked at 5-5 in the 6th minute. The Pirates and the Mumbai side kept matching each other raid for raid until Sachin pulled off a magnificent raid to reduce U Mumba to three members on the mat. However, Visvanth V effected a double-point raid to take out Ankit and Sudhakar M and keep U Mumba ahead at 10-9 in the 12th minute.
Manjeet pulled off a SUPER TACKLE and kept the Pirates in the game at 11-13 in the 15th minute. Sachin supported the defence unit brilliantly and reduced the Mumbai side to one member on the mat. But Heidarali Ekrami kept the Mumbai side in the contest through a brilliant raid. However, the Pirates continued to put pressure on U Mumba and inflicted an ALL OUT in the 17th minute. The Patna side rode on the momentum and stayed in the lead at 21-18 at the end of the first half.
Sachin continued to shine in the opening minutes of the second half and helped the Pirates extend their lead further at 23-19. However, U Mumba fought back through a flurry of raid points from Amirmohammad Zafardanesh and clinched the lead at 26-25. Zafardanesh showcased exceptional form as U Mumba inflicted an ALL OUT in the 27th minute. But Sachin kept picking up raid points from the other end too to keep the Pirates within touching distance.
The see-saw battle continued thereafter as the two sides were locked at 35-35 in the 33rd minute. However, Surinder Singh pulled off a SUPER TACKLE and helped U Mumba attain a decent lead at 39-35 in the 35th minute. Visvanth carried out a brilliant raid soon after as the Mumbai side kept forging ahead. ‘Fazel Atrachali treats us like his brothers,’ says Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 Rising Star Sonu

PUNE, 15th December 2023: The fans were at the edge of their seats during the last minute of the match between Gujarat Giants and U Mumba. Both teams were locked at 36-36 when the Giants’ Captain Fazel Atrachali directed Sonu to go for the all-important raid.

With the entire stadium chanting ‘Sonu Sonu’ the raider, who missed out on the eighth season due to an ankle injury and a few games in Season 9 due to the recurrence of the same injury, moved into U Mumba’s side of the mat with confidence. Within a few seconds, he caught Rinku, Guman Singh and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh to complete a Super Raid and seal the deal for his team. This has been the story of the Gujarat Giants this season. Whenever they needed someone to step up, Sonu has been their man.

When asked about how he has dealt with injuries in his career, the 23-year-old said, “I incurred an injury during a practice session before the eighth season. I twisted my ankle and my bone broke. I couldn’t walk properly for two months. Then I took one year to recover fully. However, I experienced ankle pain after four games in Season 9. I took some rest and played some more games.”

With being fully fit this year, Sonu is absolutely enjoying his time with the legendary Fazel Atrachali, who has been known to be a mentor to many youngsters in the league. Speaking about him, the raider said, “Fazel has a lot of experience and it’s a lot of fun to play with him. He corrects our mistakes and treats us like brothers. He has told us to play freely and not worry about anything else. If a certain game doesn’t go according to our plans then he said he will be the one who will step up for the team.”

Kabaddi has always been an integral part of the people’s lives in his village in Panipat, Haryana. Going back to his formative years in kabaddi, Sonu said, “My elder brother used to play kabaddi and he used to take me to the ground. Then I joined a camp in SAI near my house and I worked very hard there. Thereafter, I just kept going through the levels – district, nationals & state and gained a lot of confidence. There are a lot of players from our village, who have gone on to play in the Pro Kabaddi League. My brother is trying to join the league too.”

PKL 10: After bright start in Bengaluru, Haryana Steelers gear up for Puneri Paltan challenge

New Delhi, December 15th 2023: The action in Pro Kabaddi League 10 shifts to Pune where Haryana Steelers will begin the third leg of the season on Friday against the home team Puneri Paltan at the Balewadi Sports Complex, Pune. It has been a solid start for the JSW-owned franchise with two big wins in three games and co-captain Mohit Nandal summed up the Bengaluru leg, explaining the reasons behind the team’s success.

“We have won two back-to-back matches after losing the first game, and it has increased the confidence of the team. The players are motivated and we are forming good combinations. All the players are communicating well with each other. The best part of the season so far has been the plans that are being devised by the coaches,” Mohit said ahead of his side’s fourth game of the edition.

The Steelers began their campaign with a 57-27 defeat against the UP Yoddhas in Ahmedabad, but bounced back in style in Bengaluru defeating Bengaluru Bulls 38-32 and Dabang Delhi 35-33. Mohit delved deeper into the areas where the team worked after the first game giving a brief insight into the conversations that happened in the dressing room following the result.

“We lost by a big margin in the first game. The team morale was hit. But our Coach Manpreet Singh told us that it was just the first game and it always takes time to form good combinations. We have a lot of young players in the team – so the coach discussed the strategies with all of us and we trained accordingly. The results speak for themselves,” he said.

Siddharth Desai has been the star of the campaign so far with 21 points, while Jaideep and Mohit, with 10 and 8 points, respectively, have been the backbone of Haryana’s defence once again.

“Overall, the Bengaluru leg was quite good for us. Our key learning is that it is important to communicate between the players. If we can play together as a team, we can put ourselves in winning situations at all times,” Mohit said.

It is always a challenging proposition to play against the home team in front of their fans but Mohit said the team wasn’t worried about crowd reactions and said that his side will focus on their own game.

“We will face off against Puneri Paltan in front of their home crowd. We have already discussed our plans and the teams will look to play as per the strategies discussed by the team. We are confident of getting a good result from the game,” he signed off.

PKL 10: Tamil Thalaivas pull off a stunningly close victory against Telugu Titans

BENGALURU, 13th December, 2023: The Tamil Thalaivas and the Telugu Titans played out a very close battle in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 on Wednesday. However, the Thalaivas played their cards perfectly in the last phase of the game to take a 38-36 victory in the end. Narender top-scored for the Thalaivas with 10 points, meanwhile, Pawan Sehrawat and Robin Chaudhary scored 7 points each for the Titans.

Ajit Pawar tackled Narender as the Titans inched ahead at 3-1 in the 3rd minute. The Titans’ defence showcased fantastic form as they continued to hold the lead at 6-4 in the 7th minute. Narender tried to change the momentum, but he couldn’t find a way to collect raid points consistently. Robin Chaudhary supported his team’s defence unit with a few raid points as the Titans stayed ahead at 10-8 in the 11th minute.

However, Narender and Ajinkya Pawar picked up a raid point each and helped the Thalaivas level the scores 12-12. The side from Tamil Nadu rode on the momentum and reduced the Titans to just one member on the mat. But, Sanjeevi S pulled off a brilliant raid to take out Sagar and Ajinkya Pawar and keep the Titans in the contest. However, the Thalaivas put relentless pressure on their opponents and inflicted an ALL OUT just before the break. The side from Tamil Nadu led at 20-17 at the end of the first half.

Sehrawat pulled off a brilliant raid in the opening minutes of the second half to level the scores at 20-20. PKL 10: Bengaluru Bulls end home leg with close win over Jaipur Pink Panthers

BENGALURU, 13th December, 2023: The Bengaluru Bulls took a well deserved, and hard-fought 32-30 win against the Jaipur Pink Panthers in the final game of the second leg at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday. An outstanding defensive performance saw the Bulls log an incredible 13 tackle points — eight of which came from defensive corners Saurabh Nandal and Aman.

Despite the Bulls’ quick start on the mat, the Pink Panthers’ defensive nous came to the fore as they slowly chipped away on the scoreboard. Despite a lack of any multi-point raids, the Bulls were soon facing an all out. Bharat’s 50th raid point of the season came at the cost of an ALL-OUT as the Pink Panthers surged into a 10-6 lead.

That setback did little to dim the hopes of the home team, though, who slowly came back into the game. The Bulls tightened their raiding and defending moves to put the Pink Panthers on the back foot. The teams went into the break with the Pink Panthers leading by one point at 15-14.

Again, the Pink Panthers came faster out of the blocks in the second half, establishing a good lead, but the Bulls struck back soon enough. They inflicted an ALL OUT of their own to draw level at 21 apiece. The difference was a tightening of the defence. The Bulls logged an outstanding 8 tackle points, six more than their opponents in the second half alone.

A battle of attrition ensued, with neither team managing to establish a lead of more than a point till the final minute of the game. Vikash Kandola went in for the Bulls’ final raid when they had finally established a two-point lead. Almost immediately, though the Pink Panthers pounced, Ankush tackling him to cut the lead to one with just one raid remaining. V Ajith Kumar was handed the responsibility to help the Pink Panthers at the very least tie the game, but he was brilliantly out-maneuvered by a resolute Bulls defence to spark delirium in the stands.

PKL 10: Maninder, Nitin & Shrikanth’s massive Super 10s inflict a first for Patna Pirates

BENGALURU, 12th December 2023: Backed by a massive raiding performance, Bengal Warriors inflicted a first loss of the season on the Patna Pirates, beating them 60-42 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Tuesday, making this the 4th highest match points in PKL’s history with a total of 102 points being scored. Maninder Singh’s 15 points, Nitin Kumar’s 14 and Shrikanth Jadhav’s 12 points extended the Warriors unbeaten run for the season, at the cost of the only other unbeaten team in the league.

A game between two unbeaten teams was always going to centre on who blinked first. As it was, it was the Bengal Warriors, whose talisman Maninder Singh was caught on his first raid of the evening. A tight Pirates defence ensured that they did not leak points while at the other end Sachin kept picking up points sporadically to keep them up on the scorecards.

A SUPER RAID with 5 points (in a single raid) by Nitin Kumar changed the complexion of the game in the final ten minutes of the half, the Warriors going from a three point deficit to leading by one. It sparked a three minute turnaround that saw the Warriors inflict the first ALL OUT of the evening, streaking into a 16-11 lead.

The Patna Pirates started the second half down by 11 points and despite a brief comeback, soon faced a second ALL OUT as the Warriors extended into a 34-22 lead. Maninder and Jadhav had completed their SUPER 10s a quarter of the game yet to go, and the Pirates were basically staving off the inevitable.

The Warriors inflicted a third ALL OUT in the final minutes of the game before wrapping up the points and breaking the Pirates’ unbeaten run with a massive 18 points victory.

PKL 10:’Vikash told me that he would win the game for us,’ says Bengaluru Bulls’ Head Coach Randhir Singh Sehrawat

Bengaluru, 12th December 2023: Vikash Kandola rose to the occasion when it mattered the most for Bengaluru Bulls in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10. After going down in four consecutive games, the Bulls needed an inspiring performance from their star player and Kandola delivered 11 points to hand the Bulls a 38-36 victory over the U.P. Yoddhas on Monday.

Speaking about his performance, Bengaluru Bulls’ Head Coach Randhir Singh Sehrawat said, “Before the match, Vikash told me that he would win the game for us. I was very happy to hear that. He is a very talented player. The Bengaluru Bulls are known for making comebacks and hopefully, we’ll win our last game in Bengaluru.”

Meanwhile, Vikash Kandola expressed that the team’s performance is more important than his own, “My Super 10 was not important. It was more important for the team to win in front of our home fans. Our coach has been giving me confidence. He keeps telling me that I will play well. This was a kind of a do-or-die match for us because had we lost three consecutive games at home then we would have lost confidence for the rest of the season.”

The Head Coach also said that he didn’t let the team lose its morale after a difficult start in the league, “I made sure that the team’s morale didn’t go down. We have 17 more league games to go. The performance depends on team morale. If morale is down then performance will also go down.”

Preview for the matches on Wednesday:

The Telugu Titans will be hoping to get on board for the first time this season when they take on Tamil Thalaivas on Wednesday. However, the Thalaivas’ raiders Narender and Ajinkya Pawar have been in tremendous form and they will pose a strong challenge to the Titans.

Meanwhile, the Bengaluru Bulls will be aiming to sign off their home leg on a high when they go up against the Jaipur Pink Panthers. But, the Panthers are high on confidence after pulling off a thrilling victory against Gujarat Giants on Monday.

PKL 10: Vikash Kandola’s inspired Super 10 gives Bengaluru Bulls first win

BENGALURU, 11th December, 2023: In front of a partisan crowd the Bengaluru Bulls won their first game of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 beating the UP Yoddhas 38-36 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday. Vikash Kandola and Bharat both recorded 11 points each, albeit the former’s inspired first half was the reason the Bulls could turn their form around this season.

A slow and cautious opening four minutes were blown out of the water by Pardeep Narwal’s SUPER RAID which flew the Yoddhas into a 4-1 lead. Within minutes they had the Bulls on the ropes, Vikash Kandola the last man looking in. Faced with the prospect of an ALL OUT, Kandola produced a SUPER RAID to save his team the blushes and take them to within two points of the Yoddhas.

The tables turned soon after, a SUPER TACKLE by Monu taking out Narwal and with it the Yoddhas’ supremacy. Soon enough the Bulls inflicted the first ALL OUT of the game to take the lead and they went into the break leading by five points.

The Yoddhas slowly got their rhythm back in the second half, but the Bulls, backed by a loud crowd made sure they did not slip up at all. A second ALL OUT came halfway through the second half as they extended into a 29-21 lead. Hooda’s SUPER RAID took them even further out in front, and the Yoddhas were soon chasing shadows.

In the last two minutes of the game though, the Yoddhas came alive through ALL OUT with 40 seconds left on the clock. However, Bharat smartly waited on the edge of the line and ensured that the Bulls squeezed home to the delight of the home fans.

PKL 10: U.P. Yoddhas beat Telugu Titans to record second straight win

BENGALURU, 9th December, 2023: Led by a rampaging Surender Gill, the U.P. Yoddhas beat the Telugu Titans 48-33 at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Saturday. Gill (14) and Titans’ superstar Pawan Sehrawat (11) both got super 10s, in a high-scoring second game of the day.

The clash had been billed as one between the leading raiders of both teams, Pardeep Narwal and Pawan Sehrawat, two men who have been the top-scoring raiders over the past four seasons of the PKL. As it was, Sehrawat was tackled on his very first raid of the evening, allowing the Yoddhas to draw first blood. The Yoddhas capitalised on that brilliantly and inflicted the first ALL OUT soon after to race into a 10-3 lead.

Not to be outdone by the higher-profile raiders on either side of him, Surender Gill took it upon himself to take charge of the game. His SUPER RAID to take out Ankit and Milad Jabbari helped the Yoddhas take a huge lead. The Titans clawed some of it back, as the half wore on. Milad’s SUPER TACKLE  got rid of Gill for the first time in the evening and the teams went into the break with the Titans down by 4 points.

Despite some dogged defending by the Titans duo of Mohit and Milad, the Yoddhas inflicted a second ALL OUT to take a nine-point lead with ten minutes of the game left. Thereafter, the Yoddhas ensured that the Titans did not get any sniff at a comeback. With two minutes to go, a third ALL OUT followed as the Titans faced their third consecutive defeat.
