Pro Kabaddi: Scintillating Patna Pirates Halt Gujarat Giants’ Juggernaut in Final Game of Opening Leg

Ahmedabad, 7th December, 2023: The Patna Pirates put on a stupendous showing in the final game of the opening leg of the 10th Season of the Pro Kabaddi League, ending the Gujarat Giants’ winning streak in an absolute nail-biter of a clash. The Patna Pirates played with panache and power and won by 33-30 against the Gujarat Giants.

Sachin and Rohit Gulia got the Patna Pirates and the Gujarat Giants off the blocks with their first raids of the game, after which the former champions raced into a 3-point lead within the first three minutes of the game. The Patna Pirates continued to dominate the early exchanges, with each one of them pitching in against the home team. However, as the first half progressed, the Gujarat Giants started to fight back.

Compact and well-drilled, both sides continued to go at each other with all they had, and with less than 8 minutes to go in the half, the scores were level at 9-9. While Sourav Gulia and Rakesh were leading the charge for the Gujarat Giants, it was Sudhakar M who picked up the baton for the Patna Pirates in the first half, which ended with both sides tied on 12-12.

The Patna Pirates were off the blocks at good pace in the second half, with Sachin landing a crucial ALL OUT on the Gujarat Giants, to give themselves a 7-point lead, and some much-needed breathing space in what was turning out to be an absolute thriller. The Gujarat Giants were finding it tough to get going on the night as Sachin, Neeraj and Ankit continued to dominate. At the halfway point in the second half, the Patna Pirates led by 11 points.

Another ALL OUT went in favour of the Patna Pirates, who further stretched their lead to 14 points with just under 9 minutes to go. However, Rakesh and Sombir, encouraged by the talismanic Fazel Atrachali were looking to mount a comeback. With 5 minutes left on the clock, the Patna Pirates had a 9-point lead. The home team then landed an ALL OUT on the Patna Pirates, giving the supporters something to cheer about.

With two minutes left, Rakesh notched up his Super 10, before he continued to power on, cutting down the lead to two points. However, the late charge was not enough, as the Patna Pirates walked off the mat with full points.

Pro Kabaddi: Jaipur Pink Panthers and Bengal Warriors play out first tie of PKL Season 10

Ahmedabad, 07th December 2023: The Jaipur Pink Panthers and the Bengal Warriors played out a highly entertaining 28-28 draw — the first of the season — at the EKA Arena by TransStadia on Thursday. Bhavani Rajput recorded a Super 10 for the Jaipur Pink Panthers, meanwhile, Shrikant Jadhav top-scored for the Warriors with 7 points in the match.

The Jaipur Pink Panthers got off to a great start and didn’t allow the Warriors to pick up a point in the opening minutes of the match. It took the guile of Shrikant Jadhav on a DO OR DIE raid to get the Warriors on board. From there on, the Warriors constantly kept the Pink Panthers’ numbers restricted on the mat, logging points constantly.

Numbers didn’t matter for the Pink Panthers though. Their defence led by Ankush logged three SUPER TACKLES in a row in the first half to ensure they held the lead at the break. So dominant was the Pink Panthers’ defence unit that it contributed 8 tackle points to their tally as they led 13-9 at halftime.

To the Warriors’ credit, they didn’t get deterred by the Panthers’ defence unit and kept attacking without abandon. They won their reward early in the second half, inflicting the first ALL OUT of the game to take a 16-13 lead.

Once again the Pink Panthers surged, and going into the last ten minutes, the teams were locked at 20 points apiece. There was no separating them as the clock ticked down, each raid matched by the other. A series of decisions given by a hair’s breadth ensured the two teams would remain locked on even terms with a minute to play. Right at the end, Shrikant Jadhav thought he’d won it with 10 seconds left to play, but Bhawani Rajput pulled off a raid point right after. Warriors’ Captain Maninder Singh was happy to carry out an empty raid to settle for a tie in the end.

Pro Kabaddi: Pardeep Narwal Achieves Record 80 Super 10s in Dominant Win Against Haryana Steelers

Ahmedabad, 07th December 2023: The Pro Kabaddi League superstar Pardeep Narwal became the first player to record 80 Super 10s in PKL during U.P. Yoddhas’ match against Haryana Steelers in Ahmedabad on Wednesday. Narwal, who scored 12 points in the match, helped his team defeat the Steelers 57-27. Speaking about the magnificent feat, Narwal said, “I will try to register my 100th Super 10 this season. There are 20 more league games left for us and I’ll definitely try to record a Super 10 in each of the matches.”

When asked about the win, the Yoddhas Captain expressed, “It was really important for us to win the match against Haryana Steelers because we lost our previous match against U Mumba. If we lost two consecutive matches, then we would’ve been under a lot of pressure. We wanted to play as a unit against Steelers and we managed to do that.”

After a disappointing outing against U Mumba personally, Narwal wanted to make things right in Yoddhas’ game against the Steelers, “I couldn’t even score one point against U Mumba and I disappointed the fans as well. Therefore, I was determined to put up a good performance against the Steelers.”

Preview for matches on Friday:

The Bulls will be looking to find form in front of their home fans in the first match of the Bengaluru leg, however, they will face stiff competition from Dabang Delhi K.C., who have a strong raiders brigade in Naveen, Manjeet and Ashu Malik.

The second match of the day will be the Maharashtra Derby as the Puneri Paltan will take on U Mumba. Puneri defeated the Season 9 champions Jaipur Pink Panthers in their first game, meanwhile, U Mumba went down in a close contest against Gujarat Giants in their last match.

Pro Kabaddi: U.P. Yoddhas Register Thirty-Point Win Over Haryana Steelers

Ahmedabad, 06th December 2023: The U.P. Yoddhas put up an all-round masterclass to overpower the Haryana Steelers 57-27 at the EKA Arena by TransStadia on Wednesday. A complete team performance was highlighted by the brilliance of raiders Surender Gill (13 points) & Pardeep Narwal (12 points) and defender Sumit (8 points).

LIVE MATCH CENTREThe initial minutes of the game were marked by the two sides exchanging points at regular intervals, albeit the Yoddhas doing it via touch points and the Steelers reliant on bonus points. With their numbers dwindling quickly, the Steelers’ Ashish carried out a SUPER TACKLE on Pardeep Narwal to help his team stay in the contest.

Despite that brief resistance, the Yoddhas were too good on the attacking front, and within minutes, they inflicted the first ALL OUT of the game on the Steelers to take a commanding 12-6 lead.

Despite a brief regrouping by the Steelers, the game followed a similar pattern, with the Yoddhas, and Surender Gill in particular, being completely dominant. Almost single-handedly, Gill inflicted a second ALL OUT on the Steelers with four minutes of the first half to go, to give them a 29-14 lead at the break.

A third and fourth ALL OUT followed within the first 8 minutes of the second half. With a massive 25-point lead, the Yoddhas seemed to be cruising to an easy win. Gill’s raiding brilliance was perfectly complemented by Sumit and Nitesh Kumar’s brilliant tackling and there seemed to be nothing the Steelers could do to curb the wave.

The Yoddhas continued to put pressure on their opponents relentlessly and eventually wrapped up a massive 30-point victory.

Pro Kabaddi: Sachin Scores 14 Points As Patna Pirates Register Massive Victory

Pawan Sehrawat picked up a raid point early in the game as the Titans took the lead at 3-1 in the second minute. However, Sachin pulled off a SUPER RAID soon after and helped the Pirates level the scores at 3-3. But Sehrawat also effected a SUPER RAID in the next minute as the Titans inched ahead at 6-3. Ankit tackled Sehrawat in the 7th minute, but the Titans still held the lead at 8-7. However, Sachin effected another magnificent raid in the 10th minute to help the Pirates take the lead at 11-10.

Sachin continued to lead the charge for the Pirates and reduced the Titans to just one member on the mat. But Omkar Patil carried out a brilliant raid as the Titans stayed in the contest at 13-13. However, the Telugu Titans couldn’t hold on for too long and were eventually ALL OUT in the 13th minute. The raiders and defenders kept picking up points as the Patna side earned a healthy lead at 19-13. The Pirates inflicted another ALL OUT just before half-time to take a massive lead at 28-16.

The Titans tackled Sachin in the opening minutes of the second half, but the Pirates still held a big lead at 31-19. The Patna side continued to showcase brilliant form and extended their lead further at 34-22 in the 27th minute. Sehrawat tried fighting for the Titans, but he didn’t receive much support from his team members as the Pirates kept forging ahead and eventually walked off the mat with a colossal victory.

Speaking about his performance, Giants’ Head Coach Ram Mehar Singh said, “Sonu gives it his all in every raid. He uses his height brilliantly. And when he does well, the rest of the team also gets motivated to put up good performances.”

The Gujarat Giants’ Captain Fazel Atrachali also lauded Sonu’s performance, “He has been the hero for the Gujarat Giants this season. He’s our game-changer. Rakesh also played well for us against U Mumba. We have a lot of good players and our team is well-balanced.”

Furthermore, Atrachali, who plays as a specialist defender in the side, tried his hand at raiding in his team’s match against U Mumba. When asked about the same, he said,

“I used to be a raider about ten years ago. I played as a raider for Iran in 2013. I was happy about how I effected my raid and I didn’t know that it was a Do-or-Die raid. I went in to carry out an empty raid, but I managed to clinch a raid point.”

The Iranian, who holds the records for the most tackle points (432) and most successful tackles (406) in the history of PKL, spoke about his journey in the world’s biggest kabaddi league, “My journey in the Pro Kabaddi League has not been easy. I was just looking for one chance when I entered PKL for the first time in Season 2. And now I am the most successful defender in PKL. It’s difficult for an Indian to become a star in PKL, so imagine how difficult it would be for a foreign player. Sometimes, I can’t believe I hold so many records in this competition.”

PKL SEASON 10: ALL-ROUND TEAM PERFORMANCE HELPS U MUMBA DEFEAT U.P. YODDHAS IN CLOSE CONTEST

Ahmedabad, 02nd December 2023: A compact and in-form U Mumbai turned on the style in their tournament opener, as they swatted away the challenge of the traditional powerhouse U.P. Yoddhas in Ahmedabad, on Saturday. Fine performances Amirmohammad Zafardanesh (11 points), Rinku and Guman Singh ensured that U Mumba would walk away with a 34-31 win.

The U Mumba side had the better of the early exchanges in the first half, keeping the dangerous raiding unit of the U.P. Yoddhas at arm’s length. Always quite efficient in attack, Pardeep had a slow start to his season and that was reflected on the scoreline. For U Mumba, Amirmohammad Zafardanesh was leading the charge with three successful raids early on, which put pressure on the opposition.

In the final 10 minutes of the first half, the well drilled U Mumba continued to tighten the screws on the U,P. Yoddhas, and began to pull away with the lead at 7 points at one point. Rinku had put in a few big tackles while Zafardanesh was getting significant raid points to his name. U.P. Yoddhas’ Pardeep failed to get a point his way in the first half, which ended with the U Mumba 5 points ahead.

The U.P. Yoddhas started off with a Super Tackle in the first half, however, it did not take too long for the U Mumba side to get back in their groove. Zafardanesh, Rinku and Guman Singh were on fire and looking to take the game away. But, the U.P. Yoddhas were also starting to claw their way back into the game and landed an ALL OUT on Zafardanesh, which brought them right back into the contest.

The contest was heading for a close finish, and with ten minutes to go, the U.P. Yoddhas were 4 points behind. Zafardanesh had registered his first Super 10 of the season while Surinder Gill was on the brink for the U.P. Yoddhas. The fans cheered on both teams, who were matching each other move for move. With 5 minutes to go, Surinder Gill failed to make a Do or Die raid count, and allowing U Mumba some breathing space, who surged into a 4-point lead. Eventually, the U.P. Yoddhas weren’t able to mount a comeback and U Mumba came away with a comfortable win.

PRO KABADDI LEAGUE CONTINUES TO DEVELOP TECHNICAL OFFICIALS; TRAINS 38 OFFICIALS AT REFEREE TRAINING CAMP FOR SEASON 10

Kolhapur, 30th November 2023: The Pro Kabaddi League hasn’t only focussed on developing a robust player pool through various initiatives such as Future Kabaddi Heroes but has also built a fantastic group of technical officials over the last nine years. Like the players look at the Pro Kabaddi League as an aspirational career, the technical officials have also been able to look upon the league as a suitable career option.

Identifying the need for a high-level of refereeing for a world-class competition, the Technical Director of the Pro Kabaddi League Mr. E Prasad Rao explained how Mashal Sports created the PKL Referee Training Camps, “Prior to Season 1, we conducted a coaching course to help the technical officials get used to the innovative rule changes such as 30-second raids and do-or-die raids implemented in the Pro Kabaddi League. We selected around 30 officials among the persons who carried out the course. Over 100 people attended the workshop, which was conducted for about a week. This one was PKL’s first technical officials workshop.”

Rao further expressed the changes in the training programs for referees over the course of the last nine seasons, “We are planning to appoint a total of 42 officials for Season 10, while we had a total of 35 officials in Season 1. The training program for technical officials has changed over the years with technological advancements in the game. We’ve had to learn how to use the multiple cameras available to us.”

Continuing to build the technical officials group and identifying fresh talent, the Pro Kabaddi League organized a Referee Training Camp in Kolhapur ahead of the milestone tenth season, which is set to begin in December. The camp, which witnessed around 38 officials prepare for Season 10, was conducted by Mr. E Prasad Rao from 18-29 November 2023.

Speaking about the officials’ preparations for the tenth season, Rao said, “We conducted three online workshops before the referee training camp in Kolhapur. The referees were put into two groups – new officials and PKL experienced officials. We identified about ten talented referees through these workshops. These referees will officiate in PKL for the first time this year.”

When asked about the schedule in the training camp, the Technical Director expressed, “From 6:30-8:30 am, the officials underwent a physical activity to develop their speed, agility and reaction time. Between 10 am – 1 pm, the officials attended a theory session, where match situations were analysed. Then, the last session of the day was held between 5-7:30 pm wherein the officials underwent practical practice by officiating in games between club teams.”

The Telugu Titans go up against Gujarat Giants in the opening match of the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 in Ahmedabad on 2nd December 2023.

Season 10 of the Pro Kabaddi League will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network and Disney+ Hotstar.
