La Liga: Real Madrid Triumphs Over Villarreal Despite Injury Woes, Modric Shines in 4-1 Victory

MADRID – Real Madrid displayed their class with a dominant 4-1 victory over Villarreal, orchestrated by a stellar performance from Luka Modric. However, the win was overshadowed by a significant injury to defender David Alaba.

Madrid, bouncing back from a draw against Real Betis, saw Modric in sublime form. The veteran midfielder’s assist set up Jude Bellingham for the opener in the 25th minute. Bellingham’s header, his 13th goal of the season, established him as LaLiga’s top scorer.Rodrygo doubled Madrid’s lead in the 37th minute, converting from a Modric corner. Initially flagged offside, VAR correctly overturned the decision.

The victory was marred by injury concerns, with Alaba sustaining an ACL tear in the first half. This setback adds to Real’s injury list, which already includes Éder Militão and Thibaut Courtois. Ferland Mendy also exited with an injury, compounding Carlo Ancelotti’s defensive challenges.

Villarreal briefly threatened a comeback with José Morales scoring in the 54th minute. However, Brahim Díaz’s individual brilliance in the 64th minute restored Madrid’s two-goal cushion. Modric then capped his magnificent display with a goal four minutes later, highlighting his vital role in the team.

Ancelotti expressed concern over the team’s injury situation but remained optimistic, emphasizing the squad’s resilience and ability to exceed expectations.

The victory propels Real Madrid to the top of LaLiga with 42 points, one ahead of Girona and seven clear of third-placed Barcelona. Villarreal, despite their efforts, couldn’t withstand Madrid’s quality and now face an uphill battle in the league.

Real Madrid’s commanding win over Villarreal showcased their depth and tactical prowess, with Modric’s masterclass at the forefront. However, the growing injury list, particularly Alaba’s ACL tear, poses a significant challenge as Madrid continues their title defense. Despite the setbacks, Ancelotti’s side has shown resilience and a winning mentality, crucial for their campaign in LaLiga and beyond.

Ligue 1: Last-Minute Equalizer by Jonathan David Denies PSG Full Points at Lille

LILLE – In a dramatic turn of events, Paris Saint-Germain’s quest for victory was thwarted by a last-minute equalizer from Lille’s Jonathan David, resulting in a 1-1 draw. The match saw the Ligue 1 leaders squander a lead established by Kylian Mbappe’s penalty.

Lille started with vigor, buoyed by the home crowd’s enthusiasm, creating several chances early on. However, PSG gradually found their rhythm, with Ousmane Dembele narrowly missing a significant opportunity. Vitinha also came close for PSG, but his effort was parried away by Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier.

PSG upped the ante after halftime, culminating in Mbappe’s successful penalty. However, the game’s complexion changed dramatically with David’s late goal, leaving PSG to rue missed opportunities.

The match unfolded with intense competition, as PSG sought to assert their dominance. The deadlock was broken in the 66th minute when Bafode Diakite’s foul on Lucas Hernandez led to a penalty, confidently converted by Mbappe into the top corner.

Despite PSG’s control for the majority of the game, Lille remained undeterred. Their persistence paid off in the final moments when Marco Asensio’s errant pass was intercepted, leading to a sequence where Adam Ounas’s deflected shot was initially saved by PSG goalkeeper Arnau Tenas. However, David was quick to react, heading the rebound into the net, snatching a draw for Lille.

Luis Enrique, PSG’s manager, reflected on the game, acknowledging the slight loss of control that led to the draw. He lamented the result, which he felt didn’t do justice to PSG’s performance.

The draw leaves PSG at the top with 37 points, five ahead of second-placed Nice, who suffered a defeat against Le Havre. Lille’s crucial point puts them in fourth place with 28 points. Monaco, another title contender, also faced a setback, losing to Olympique Lyonnais.

PSG looks to rebound against Metz in their next game, while Lille faces Strasbourg before the league enters the Christmas break.

The match at Lille highlighted the unpredictability and competitiveness of Ligue 1, with PSG’s momentary lapse costing them two vital points in the title race. For Lille, the dramatic equalizer serves as a testament to their resilience and capability to challenge the league’s top teams.

Serie A: Internazionale Solidifies Serie A Lead with 2-0 Victory Over Lazio

ROME – Internazionale fortified their position atop Serie A with a clinical 2-0 win against Lazio, extending their lead to four points. The triumph was marked by goals from Lautaro Martínez and Marcus Thuram, contributing to Inter’s impressive run of seven wins in their last eight league games.

Despite Lazio’s aggressive start and dominance in possession, Inter capitalized on a defensive lapse. Adam Marusic’s misplaced backward pass was seized upon by Martínez, who deftly navigated past goalkeeper Ivan Provedel to score in the 40th minute. This goal marked Martínez’s 15th in the league, leading the scorers’ list.

Post-halftime, Lazio sought an equalizer with Nicolo Rovella’s effort from inside the box, only to be thwarted by Inter’s goalkeeper Yann Sommer. The tide turned further in Inter’s favor when Thuram doubled their lead in the 66th minute, firing a low shot into the far post after receiving Nicolò Barella’s pinpoint pass.

Lazio’s challenges intensified as Manuel Lazzari received a straight red card for dissent, leaving the hosts with ten men.

Sommer’s performance for Inter was historic, achieving 11 games without conceding. He became the first goalkeeper to register at least ten clean sheets in his first 15 Serie A matches since the inception of the three-point era in 1994-95.

Notably, no team in Europe’s top five leagues has recorded more clean sheets than Inter this season, underscoring their defensive solidity.

Simone Inzaghi, Inter’s coach, expressed satisfaction with the team’s comprehensive performance, emphasizing the importance of unity and continual improvement.

The victory propels Inter to 41 points from 16 games, distancing themselves from second-placed Juventus, who sit on 37 points following a draw with Genoa. Lazio, meanwhile, drops to 11th with 21 points, facing the setback of their unbeaten home record since August being brokIen.

nternazionale’s win at Lazio not only strengthens their lead in Serie A but also highlights their tactical discipline and individual brilliance. With a robust defense and prolific scoring, Inter continues to solidify their status as formidable contenders for the Serie A title.

Bundesliga: Bayern Munich Triumphs Over Stuttgart with Kane’s Double in a 3-0 Victory*

MUNICH- Bayern Munich showcased their championship pedigree with a resounding 3-0 win over Stuttgart in the Bundesliga, propelled by Harry Kane’s brace and a goal from Kim. The victory brings coach Thomas Tuchel’s side closer to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite missing key players Leon Goretzka and Joshua Kimmich due to illness, Bayern Munich made an immediate impact. Harry Kane, overcoming a cold, struck early, capitalizing on a mistake from Stuttgart keeper Alexander Nübel and converting Leroy Sané’s setup. This marked Kane’s 19th goal in the Bundesliga this season.

The match witnessed end-to-end action, with Stuttgart’s Maximilian Mittelstädt challenging Manuel Neuer and Bayern’s Kim having a goal disallowed. Nübel, on loan from Bayern, redeemed himself with crucial saves against Sané. The half concluded with Thomas Müller’s goal being ruled offside, keeping Stuttgart in contention.

Stuttgart, enjoying one of their best starts in the Bundesliga, found themselves overwhelmed after the break. Kane’s header from Kim’s flick increased his season tally to 20 goals. Shortly after, Kim’s header, aided by a deflection off Anthony Rouault, solidified Bayern’s control.

Bayern’s commanding performance underlined their status as title contenders, now just four points behind Bayer Leverkusen with a game in hand. Stuttgart, despite their promising season start, struggled to match Bayern’s intensity and clinical finishing.

The match was a testament to Bayern’s depth and tactical versatility under Thomas Tuchel’s guidance. Kane’s standout performance, despite his recent illness, highlights his crucial role in Bayern’s title chase. For Stuttgart, the upcoming match against Augsburg presents an opportunity for redemption, while Bayern looks forward to their encounter with Wolfsburg in the next round of fixtures.

Bayern Munich’s convincing win over a strong Stuttgart side not only narrows the gap with the league leaders but also sends a clear message about their intent to continue dominating the Bundesliga.

EPL: Liverpool’s Title Hopes Dented in Goalless Stalemate Against Manchester United at Anfield

LIVERPOOL– In a fiercely contested Premier League encounter, Liverpool’s ambitions to climb to the top of the table were thwarted as they were held to a 0-0 draw by a defensively resolute Manchester United. This outcome marks the first time Jurgen Klopp’s side has dropped points at Anfield this season.

Liverpool, with Ibrahima Konate as the sole change from their last outing, unleashed an early onslaught. Anfield, buzzing with its largest crowd since the 1960s due to the newly redeveloped stand, saw the Reds win a corner in the opening seconds. Darwin Nunez’s header was initially saved by Andre Onana, who then denied Mohamed Salah’s close-range follow-up.

Liverpool’s pressure persisted, epitomized by Virgil van Dijk’s powerful header, which forced another impressive save from Onana. Salah, finding space courtesy of Ryan Gravenberch’s cutback, tested Onana again, but the United goalkeeper stood firm.

Manchester United, showing four changes under Erik ten Hag, including Jonny Evans and Raphael Varane, found their footing. Alejandro Garnacho’s breakaway chance was superbly thwarted by Trent Alexander-Arnold’s defensive prowess.

Liverpool responded, with substitute Cody Gakpo linking up with Salah, only for Onana to comfortably handle Salah’s curling effort. Alexander-Arnold’s own attempt narrowly missed, brushing the near post.

United, against the run of play, nearly took the lead when Rasmus Hojlund’s close-range effort was directed straight at Alisson. Salah’s continued efforts to break the deadlock were met with Onana’s acrobatic saves, highlighting a standout performance from the United goalkeeper.

In the dying moments of the match, United’s Diogo Dalot received two quick yellow cards for dissent, reducing the visitors to ten men. Despite the numerical advantage, Liverpool couldn’t capitalize, culminating in a frustrating draw.

This result leaves Liverpool in second place with 38 points, trailing leaders Arsenal by a narrow margin. Manchester United sits in seventh, closely trailing Newcastle United and slightly ahead of their next opponents, West Ham United.

The match showcased a classic defensive masterclass from Manchester United, underlining their resilience and tactical discipline. For Liverpool, the inability to convert dominance into goals raises questions ahead of their crucial next fixture against Arsenal. The draw adds another layer of complexity to the Premier League title race, with both teams left reflecting on missed opportunities.

EPL: West Ham United Triumphs Over Wolverhampton Wanderers with Kudus Double

LONDON – West Ham United delivered a commanding 3-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers, with Mohammed Kudus netting twice and Jarrod Bowen adding a third. This win propels the Hammers to seventh in the Premier League and marks a significant rebound from their 5-0 defeat against Fulham last weekend.

David Moyes’ tactical adjustments, bringing in Emerson Palmieri and Edson Alvarez, proved pivotal. The Hammers seized control early on, with Lucas Paqueta orchestrating a swift move from a Wolves corner. Kudus, the star from Ajax, received Paqueta’s pass and unleashed a precise low shot, outsmarting Dan Bentley at the near post.

Wolves, under the guidance of Gary O’Neil, showed resilience with Matheus Cunha testing Lukasz Fabianski from distance. However, West Ham’s relentless pressure soon paid dividends. Kurt Zouma’s interception sparked another quick transition, culminating in Kudus’ second goal, a clinical right-footed finish off Paqueta’s exquisite pass.

Wolves nearly halved the deficit when Pablo Sarabia found the net, but VAR intervention ruled out the goal for offside. This setback did little to diminish West Ham’s momentum. In the 74th minute, Paqueta, in a playmaker’s masterclass, set up Bowen for a smooth finish into the bottom-left corner, effectively sealing the match for the Hammers.

This victory is a testament to West Ham’s resilience and tactical adaptability under Moyes. Kudus emerged as the standout performer, marking the earliest double by a West Ham player in a home Premier League match since Mark Noble against Manchester United in April 2011.

West Ham’s rise to seventh place, now with 27 points, showcases their capability to bounce back from setbacks and maintain a strong position in the league standings. Conversely, Wolves, stuck in 13th place with 19 points, will reflect on missed opportunities and seek to rediscover their scoring touch in upcoming fixtures.

The result underscores West Ham United’s potential as a formidable force in the Premier League, combining tactical astuteness with individual brilliance, exemplified by Kudus and Paqueta in this match.

EPL:Aston Villa’s Dramatic Turnaround Sees Them Rise to Second in Premier League

BIRMINGHAM – Aston Villa clinched a pivotal 2-1 victory over Brentford in a pulsating encounter, rising to second in the Premier League standings. The match, filled with drama, saw both teams reduced to ten men and featured late goals from Alex Moreno and Ollie Watkins, overturning Brentford’s early lead.

Villa, introducing fresh legs with Matty Cash, Moreno, Moussa Diaby, and Jacob Ramsey, started assertively. However, Brentford, with Zanka, Mikkel Damsgaard, and Mads Roerslev in the lineup, posed an early threat. Damsgaard’s strike, following a Vitaly Janelt setup, was well-saved by Emiliano Martinez.

Moreno, embodying Villa’s initial dominance, broke through Brentford’s backline but failed to convert. Villa continued to press, with Ramsey narrowly missing the target, connecting with Watkins. The script flipped dramatically in the 45th minute when Keane Lewis-Potter seized on a loose ball from a corner, firing his first Premier League goal past Martinez.

Villa resumed with intent, yet Brentford’s counter-attacking menace lingered. Watkins and Moreno came close for Villa, while Brentford nearly doubled their lead but were denied by Moreno’s decisive intervention.

The match’s dynamics shifted in the 71st minute. Ben Mee’s challenge on substitute Leon Bailey was upgraded from a yellow to a red card after a VAR review. Villa, seizing their numerical advantage, equalized six minutes later with Moreno heading in Bailey’s cross.

The climax arrived in the 85th minute when Watkins, a former Brentford player, headed in Boubacar Kamara’s flick-on to complete Villa’s comeback. Emotions flared post-goal, leading to yellow cards for Neal Maupay and Martinez, and a red card for Kamara for violent conduct in added time.

Despite being down a player, Villa stood resilient, securing their 25th Premier League win of 2023 – a record for the club in a calendar year.

This victory marks a significant milestone for Aston Villa, propelling them into the upper echelons of the league. Their ability to overturn a deficit, coupled with strategic in-game adjustments, underscored their resilience and tactical acumen.

For Brentford, the defeat adds to their recent woes, dropping them to 12th with 19 points. The Bees’ propensity to lose points from winning positions continues to be a concern, having now relinquished 17 points in such scenarios this season – the most in the league.

Aston Villa’s historic victory not only cements their place among the league’s elite but also signals their potential as serious contenders in the Premier League race.

EPL: Arsenal Climb to Premier League Summit with Commanding Win Over Brighton

LONDON – Arsenal ascended to the top of the Premier League standings following a masterful 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, marked by second-half goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz. This win also halted Brighton’s 32-match scoring run, a streak unbroken since February.

Arsenal, maintaining an unchanged lineup for the first time this season, exhibited a vibrant start. Bukayo Saka, the young starlet, consistently challenged veteran James Milner, who marked his 40th appearance against the Gunners. Saka’s energetic performance set the tone early on, testing Brighton’s defense with his pace and agility.

The Gunners’ initial threat materialized through Saka’s effort, drawing a save from Bart Verbruggen. Martin Odegaard followed suit, narrowly missing the target with a curving left-footed strike.

Brighton faced adversity as Joel Veltman exited with a suspected knee injury before the half-hour mark. Arsenal continued to press, with Odegaard and Saka orchestrating a move that culminated in Gabriel Martinelli firing over the bar. Verbruggen and Jan Paul van Hecke stood resilient against Arsenal’s onslaught, keeping the scoreline level at the break.

After halftime, Brighton’s strategy to build from the back backfired, setting the stage for Arsenal’s breakthrough in the 53rd minute. A misplaced pass by Verbruggen was intercepted, leading to a corner. Saka’s delivery was inadvertently deflected by Van Hecke, allowing Gabriel Jesus to nod home his third league goal at the far post.

Brighton’s defensive woes continued as they failed to register a clean sheet in their last 21 Premier League outings. Arsenal, meanwhile, sought to double their advantage, with Ben White’s header nearly finding the net and Odegaard constantly troubling the Brighton keeper.

Brighton almost found an equalizer against the flow of the game, with Pascal Gross narrowly missing from close range after connecting with Kaoru Mitoma’s cross.

The decisive moment arrived in the 87th minute when substitute Eddie Nketiah’s dynamic run set up Havertz, who confidently beat Verbruggen. This marked Havertz’s first home goal and fourth in all competitions this season.

The result propels Arsenal to 39 points, surpassing rivals Liverpool, who face Manchester United later. Brighton’s commendable scoring streak comes to an abrupt end, dropping them to ninth place with 26 points.

Arsenal’s performance today was a blend of tactical discipline and creative flair, showcasing their title credentials. As the season progresses, the Gunners’ consistency and ability to overcome challenging opponents like Brighton will be crucial in their pursuit of Premier League glory.

FIFA Council appoints Chile and Poland as hosts of FIFA youth competitions

The FIFA Council met ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup 2023™ semi-finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with youth competitions an important item on the agenda, as Chile was unanimously appointed as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025™ and Poland as the host of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026™.

“Since 1962, Chile has organised FIFA events at the highest level, most recently the FIFA U-17 World Cup in 2015. The country’s organisational experience coupled with the passion of the Chilean fans will provide a fantastic setting for the stars of tomorrow,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“Poland is a country with a magnificent football tradition and hosted a memorable edition of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2019, in which emerging stars like Erling Haaland made a great impression. Hosting the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026 will be a new milestone in Poland’s football history and one that will boost women’s football in the country and across the world.”

The slot allocation for both the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025 and the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup 2026 are the same as each other and remain unchanged from the previous editions of both competitions: AFC: 4; CAF: 4; Concacaf: 4; CONMEBOL: 4; OFC: 2; UEFA: 5; host country: 1.

As part of FIFA’s efforts to further professionalise the women’s game, the Council also approved the governing framework for a training compensation system for women’s football in order to encourage the development of youth players, protect the investment of the training clubs and contribute to the competitive balance and sustainability of women’s football.

FIFA will subsequently draft the relevant regulations, and a task force will be established to finalise the technical details.

With the objective of modernising the applicable regulatory framework for national dispute resolution chambers and to provide clarity and the necessary legal certainty with regard to their jurisdiction and structure, the FIFA Council approved the National Dispute Resolution Chamber Recognition Principles and its Annexe 1 (National Dispute Resolution Chamber Standard Regulations – 2023 edition).

The dates of the following competitions were included in the respective international match calendars:

  • OFC Nations Cup 2024 (15-30 June 2024)
  • Concacaf Gold Cup 2025 (14 June – 6 July 2025)
  • OFC Women’s Olympic Football Qualifying Tournament 2024 (7-19 February 2024)
  • UEFA Women’s EURO 2025 (2-27 July 2025)

FIFA Council confirms key details for FIFA Club World Cup 2025™

The FIFA Council met ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup 2023™ semi-finals in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and took key decisions in relation to the first 32-team FIFA Club World Cup™, which will be played in the United States in 2025. The competition’s official name will be Mundial de Clubes FIFA and will feature clubs from each of the six confederations.

The Council unanimously confirmed the club ranking methodology to be used as part of the key principles of access, which were approved at the Council’s meeting in March 2023.

With the objective of ensuring the highest quality possible based on sporting criteria over the most recent four seasons, starting from the group stage of the confederation’s relevant premier club competition, and incentivising the result of every game in the respective tournament, the following methodology for the new standard ranking was approved:

  • 3 points for a win
  • 1 point for a draw
  • 3 points for progress to each stage of the competition

In the case of European clubs, given that three full seasons and a full group stage of the fourth season of the UEFA Champions League have already been completed, and since UEFA has an existing club coefficient system, the current pre-existing methodology principles for the purpose of calculating the UEFA club coefficient in relation to matches in the UEFA Champions League only will be exceptionally applied to determine the ranking of European clubs for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.

The approved methodology for the ranking of European teams is therefore as follows:

  • 2 points for a win
  • 1 point for a draw
  • 4 points for qualification for the group stage
  • 5 points for qualification for the round of 16
  • 1 point for progress to each stage of the competition thereafter

Tournament dates confirmed

The first edition of the tournament will take place from 15 June to 13 July 2025. These dates have been set to ensure that the scheduling of the tournament is harmoniously aligned with the International Match Calendar to allow sufficient time between the tournament final and the start of the season in many domestic leagues globally, and considering that a minimum of three days of rest between matches should be guaranteed in order to safeguard player welfare.

Tournament format

The format of the competition was confirmed as follows:

  • A group stage composed of eight groups of four teams per group playing in a single-game round-robin format
  • The top two teams per group progressing to the round of 16
  • A direct single-match knockout stage from the round of 16 to the final
  • No third-place play-off

The competition will therefore follow the same format as the FIFA World Cup 2022™ and the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™, with the exception that there will be no play-off for third place.

“Clubs play a fundamental role in world football, and the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 will be a major milestone in providing clubs from all confederations with a fitting stage on which to shine at the highest level of the game,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“This will be an open competition based on sporting merit that will play a key role as part of our efforts to make football truly global.”

FIFA Intercontinental Cup to be played annually from 2024

Following the Council’s approval in March 2023 of an annual FIFA club competition as of 2024, featuring all confederation premier club competition champions and concluding with a final at a neutral venue between the UEFA Champions League winners and the winners of an intercontinental play-off between clubs from the other confederations, it was agreed that the official name of the competition will be the Coupe Intercontinentale de la FIFA.

To strengthen continental sporting rivalries and create a prestigious yearly title for all stages of the competition, the FIFA Intercontinental Cup will comprise the following stages:

Stage A: This stage of the competition will have two rounds. In the first round, on an alternating basis, the winners of the AFC Champions League or the winners of the CAF Champions League will play in their home stadium against the winners of the OFC Champions League. The winners of this round will go on to play either the winners of the AFC Champions League or the winners of the CAF Champions League in the final round. The first edition will see the identity of the AFC or CAF team in the first round determined by a draw and the hosting rights for the first round and the final round split between the relevant AFC and CAF teams accordingly, so each team will play one match in their home stadium. The hosting rights for the first round and the final round will alternate each year thereafter.

Stage B: The winners of the Concacaf Champions Cup will play the winners of the CONMEBOL Libertadores over a single leg in the home stadium of one of the clubs, with the hosts of the first edition to be determined by a draw and the hosting rights alternating each year thereafter.

Play-off: The winners of both previous stages will play each other in the days before the final, at the same neutral venue hosting the final.

Final: The winners of the play-off will play the winners of the UEFA Champions League at a neutral venue, with the winners being crowned as champions for that year.

For the inaugural edition of the competition in 2024, the following dates were confirmed:

  • The first stages will be scheduled by FIFA in consultation with the clubs and the confederations
  • The play-off will take place on 14 December 2024 in a neutral location
  • The final will take place on 18 December 2024 in the same neutral location

PKL 10:Guman and Zafardanesh put up fantastic performances as U Mumba defeat Tamil Thalaivas

PUNE, 17th December, 2023: A clinical performance saw U Mumba defeat Tamil Thalaivas 46-33 in their PKL Season 10 game at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Sunday. U Mumba’s raiding duo of Guman Singh and Amirmohammad Zafardanesh recorded Super 10s as they scored a massive 21 points in the game.

The two teams traded successful raids in the opening minutes, with neither budging an inch. Soon though the game was thrown wide open via Guman Singh’s SUPER RAID that opened up U Mumba’s lead. Guman would go into halftime with 11 points from 9 raids, a success rate of over 100 percent, as his team took 20 raid points from the first half.

While Guman took the spotlight, U Mumba’s second raider Amirmohammad Zafardanesh chipped away silently and was chiefly responsible for inflicting the first ALL OUT of the game as U Mumba took a 19-9 lead. They consolidated that further, taking an 11-point lead into the break.

While the Thalaivas stopped the flow of points briefly in the second period, U Mumba’s smart defending meant they never really got too close to chipping away the lead. Just when it seemed like U Mumba were struggling on the raid, Zafardanesh came up with a SUPER RAID to increase the gap.

That raid cascaded into a second ALL OUT as U Mumba took a commanding 40-24 lead with five minutes to play. It came down to the Thalaivas to try and cut their losses and salvage a point from the game, but U Mumba’s defence was in no mood to go soft as they took a massive victory.

Please find below the schedule for PKL Season 10 match on Sunday

Game 1 – Patna Pirates vs Jaipur Pink Panthers – 8 pm

ISL:Roy Krishna stars with a brace as Odisha FC sweeps past Hyderabad FC 3-0

Bhubaneswar, 17 December, 2023: Odisha FC put in a clinical performance to beat Hyderabad FC by 3-0 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2023-24 tonight. Fijian striker Roy Krishna bagged a brace with goals in either halves, which included a strike by Senegalese defender Mourtada Fall in the middle to ensure the Juggernauts extended their unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions.

Krishna was a threat for the Hyderabad FC defence right from the beginning, taking shots from either foot though the opposition’s backline held their own to thwart those efforts early on. Sergio Lobera has gotten a host of his former stars along with him in Odisha FC, and the rewards of that reflect in the immediacy with which they have settled into the side.

Fullback Amey Ranawade is one of them, having been an integral part of Lobera’s title-winning unit in Mumbai City FC in 2020-21. Tonight, he chipped in with a cross for Krishna that the striker converted in the 35th minute. It was Ranawade’s second assist of the season, and the former Bengaluru FC striker ensured that he was efficient from close range to get the home side the opening goal of the night.

Odisha FC have been lethal from set-pieces lately too, with the presence of Fall helping them explore impressive opportunities inside the box. Five minutes after Krishna’s strike, Carlos Delgado laid up a pass through his head for his defending counterpart, and Fall was on mark by slotting the ball inside the back of the net to get his 21st goal of his ISL career.

The Juggernauts did not cede control over the encounter thereafter, ensuring that they held the upper hand in the proceedings from the centre. Krishna was equally involved in setting up opportunities for his teammates, one of which was squandered by Jerry Mawihmingthanga from the left side of the box in the 65th minute.

Jonathan Moya and Joe Knowles came close to reducing the deficit in the second half too, but the duo of Delgado and Fall were well-positioned to not let those chances emerge into definite chances for the visitors. Finally, Krishna capped off the game late into the second half, in the fifth minute of the added time, by bringing his left foot into the equation and shooting the ball past Gurmeet Singh from a fairly tight angle to bring curtains down to an incredibly professional and even flawless game for Lobera & Co.

Key Performer of the Match

Roy Krishna (Odisha FC)

Krishna scored twice, created two goal-scoring opportunities, and completed 22 of his 29 attempted passes, in addition to tackling and intercepting once to produce an all-round performance that helped Odisha FC to three points from this faceoff.

What’s next for both teams?

Odisha FC will next face East Bengal FC on December 22, whereas Hyderabad FC will play Jamshedpur FC on December 21.

Brief Scores

Odisha FC 3 (Roy Krishna 35’ 90+5’, Mourtada Fall 40’) – 0 Hyderabad FC

Chennaiyin FC, fresh off a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Bengaluru FC, will be looking to capitalize on their newfound form and climb further up the league table.

Chennaiyin FC: Aiming for Consistency
Chennaiyin FC, colloquially known as the Marina Machans, has shown glimpses of brilliance this season, particularly in their recent victory, which was marked by two well-executed penalties from Rafael Crivellaro and Jordan Murray. The clean sheet in their last game was a notable improvement for a side that had been conceding an average of two goals per game in their initial nine matches. Under the guidance of head coach Owen Coyle, a figure familiar with the demands of creating a championship side, Chennaiyin FC has shown potential in their attacking prowess, with Crivellaro, Murray, and Connor Shields leading the charge.

Punjab FC: In Search of a Breakthrough
On the other side, Punjab FC, coached by Staikos Vergetis, is still in pursuit of their first ISL victory. Despite a promising performance against Kerala Blasters FC, they fell short, hinting at the need for a more cohesive strategy and better game management. Vergetis, who has previously led the team to promotion to the top tier, faces the challenge of refining his team’s defensive resilience and enhancing their attacking capabilities.

What’s at Stake for Both Teams
Chennaiyin FC has a chance to build momentum and secure a stronger position in the top six, capitalizing on their recent away game successes. For Punjab FC, the stakes are high as they aim to rectify their mistakes from their previous heavy loss to Chennaiyin FC and seek their elusive first ISL win.

Key Players to Watch

  • Krishnananda Singh (Punjab FC): Despite modest statistics, Singh has been a dynamic presence in Punjab FC’s attack, demonstrating potential as a game-changer.
  • Rafael Crivellaro (Chennaiyin FC): With impressive goal contributions this season, Crivellaro will be crucial in creating and converting chances for his team.

Head-to-Head Record and Trivia

  • The teams have faced each other once before, with Chennaiyin FC emerging victorious.
  • Chennaiyin FC holds the record for the most fouls conceded this season (145).

Team Perspectives

‘Our team is the best side in the Pro Kabaddi League,’ says Puneri Paltan Head Coach BC Ramesh

PUNE, 17th December 2023: The Puneri Paltan put up a magnificent performance to record a 49-19 victory against Bengal Warriors in the Pro Kabaddi League Season 10 in Pune on Saturday.

Speaking about their performance, the Puneri Paltan Head Coach BC Ramesh said, “The raiders and the defenders put up a complete performance against Bengal Warriors. Aslam is leading the team really well. He understood the match situations and utilized his players accordingly against the Bengal Warriors. He especially knew when the team needed to take bonus points and when to kill time during the game.”

Ramesh further added, “Our team is the best side in the league. We have the best raiders and defenders in the tournament. If the team plays as a unit then we will win all games.”

On a brilliant night for the Puneri Paltan, defender Sanket Sawant unfortunately couldn’t find a way to score a point. When asked about his thoughts on Sanket’s game, the Head Coach said, “There are very few left raiders in the league. So when a left raider suddenly comes into the attack after a flurry of right raiders, it takes some time for the left cover to gain momentum. However, Sanket is trying to perform well. There are very few left covers in India and we have one of the best in our team.”

Preview for the matches on Monday:

The Bengal Warriors will be looking to bounce back after a heavy defeat to Puneri Paltan in their last game, however, U.P. Yoddhas’ Pardeep Narwal and Surender Gill will pose a strong challenge to the Warriors.

The Puneri Paltan will be hoping to continue to put smiles on their fans’ faces in their home leg when they take on Dabang Delhi K.C., however, the team from the capital city is high on confidence after registering a clinical victory over Telugu Titans in their last game.
